Looking back on a few magical days on the land, immersing in nature.

One year ago, I had a vision of a group of people walking around barefoot, swimming in the river, eating communal meals by the fire, learning about indigenous culture and walking each other home to nature.

And to look back on some of these moments in retrospect now makes me so proud and grateful to those who dreamt the same and said ‘yes’.

Huge huge huge thank you to:

🌿 Wokka from Bush to Bowl | Native Plants & Bushfoods for teaching us about indigenous plants and culture.

📸 Sydney Fashion Photographer for these stunning photos and helping us all tap into our big kid energy!

🍳 olivia may for your support since day 0 and being an incredible head chef and support

🥦 Brad Lawson for being everything I needed when I needed (kitchen hand, car packer and unpacker, cleaner, tent setter)

+ so many friends, family and the ConserVentures community for believing in the vision, showing up to walks and keeping this dream alive.

If you want to be the first to hear when the next camping immersion happens in 2027 and receive the earlybird offer before the public, comment ‘immerse’ and I’ll add you to the waitlist ✨

🌺 Bottlebrush: sweet nectar, Aussie style 🌺

Bottlebrush (Callistemon) is one of our favourite edible flowers at Bush To Bowl. Those bright “brushes” are full of sweet nectar, and you’ll see lorikeets and honeyeaters feasting on them. We love seeking it out ourselves.

☀️ Best sourced early in the morning, when there’s the most nectar on the flower.

How to enjoy it:
Gently shake or tap the brush over your hand, or pinch a few stamens and taste the sweetness. You can also cut a flower, pop it in a glass of water and enjoy the sweet nectar that comes off.
Colours to look for 🎨
❤️ Classic red, the most well known
🩷 Pink, from soft blush to deep rose
🤍 Cream and white
💛 Yellow and lime green, like the lemon-flowered varieties
💜 Purple and mauve tones, found in some cultivars

Did you know? ✨
🌺 The “brush” is made of stamens, not petals
🔥 Fire-ready seeds. The woody seed capsules can cling to the branches for years, and many release their seeds after fire.

Where to find them 🌏
Bottlebrushes are native to Australia, with species growing naturally in every mainland state, from coastal bushland and creek banks to inland waterways. You’ll spot them in parks, streetscapes and gardens right across the country. Look for them at your local nursery, native plant nursery or garden centre.

Why they matter 🐦
Bottlebrushes are a vital food source for native birds, bees and insects. Planting one brings your garden to life and supports local biodiversity.

Growing tips:
🌱 Easy to grow, and great as a feature plant or hedge
🌱 Full sun, and happy in most soils, even damper spots
🌱 Water well while establishing, then it’s quite hardy
🌱 Use a low-phosphorus native fertiliser only
🌱 Tip prune after flowering to keep it bushy
🌱 Dwarf varieties are perfect for pots and small gardens

⚠️ Only eat flowers you’ve positively identified and that haven’t been sprayed.
