A hole in one doesn't always tell the full story. Was it a perfectly executed shot, or did it bounce off a footpath and a building on the way in?

The end result might look the same, but the process behind it tells a very different story. This 19m boundary fence was the next stage of our project.

Before a single batten could be installed, we needed to get the framework right. Following our final site measurements, every post position, post height and rail location was carefully calculated to accommodate the changing ground levels and the finished design.

Clean lines. Consistent spacing. Beautiful natural timber. At approximately 3.7m high and 3.7m wide, this custom Abodo entrance screen makes a strong architectural statement without unnecessary visual complexity.

Every batten, connection and supporting element plays a part in achieving that simplicity. The details you don't notice are often the ones that required the most thought.

Turning an architectural concept into a finished structure involves far more than following a drawing. Every connection, fixing position, frame dimension and installation sequence needed to be considered before the screen could take shape.

Detailed construction notes became fabricated components, followed by workshop assembly and test fitting to confirm everything worked together as intended. That preparation is what makes the final installation possible when there is very little room for error.

Simple by design. Far from simple to build. Over the next few posts, we're taking you behind the scenes to show just how much thought goes into achieving a seemingly simple finish.

For this project, the architect's vision, the builder's set out plans, our construction plans and our fabrication ex*****on all had to come together to create this striking 3.7m-high Abodo timber entrance screen.

From shop drawings and fabrication tables to the finished façade.
The completed balustrade allows the varied pickets to become the feature, while the structure required to support them quietly disappears into the design. The privacy screen required as part of the Development Application was also designed using the same varied vertical pattern, allowing it to feel like part of the original architectural concept rather than an addition. Our client was thrilled with the result: “It gave us something bespoke that tied in with some of the other design elements in the façade.”

The finished result might be all about the pickets, but some of the cleverest details are the ones you can't see. To keep the irregular pattern as clean as possible, we developed fully welded channel-rail frames that conceal the individual picket fixings and minimise visible welds from both sides. Even the structural posts were incorporated into the pattern, with wider pickets positioned directly in front of them so they disappear from street view. The approximately 10m frontage was then fabricated as just two main frame sections to minimise joints and installation fixings. A lot of thinking behind the scenes for a finished result designed to look effortless.
