Luxury isn’t a look. It’s how a home feels to live in.

Our founder Camilla hosts Behind the Design Podcast - the design industry, unpacked., a podcast that goes behind the scenes with the people who shape the spaces we live, work and gather in. When she sat down with James from Jakin Luxury Living, this was the idea that stuck with all of us.

What feels like luxury to one family might not even register for another, which is exactly why no two of our interior design projects are the same.

What’s the one thing that would feel like luxury in your home?

Holiday rental styling: where to spend, and where to save.

We get asked this all the time, and the answer is simpler than most people expect. Put the budget where your guests spend their time.

That’s the living room, because it’s the first photo people see on your Airbnb listing and where everyone ends up at night. It’s the outdoor area, with a table that seats everyone the house sleeps and a barbecue. And it’s the beds, because nobody forgives a bad night’s sleep on holiday.

Then save on the spare bedrooms. A great bed and somewhere to put a suitcase is really all they need.

Furnishing a holiday home this way means the money goes into the things guests notice, photograph and write about in their reviews.

Not sure where to start with your own holiday home? Get in touch and we’ll work through it with you.

Big news in the studio. Camilla Ingall has bought a home.

And yes, the Pinterest board was started well before the keys were handed over.

Nothing is on here just because it’s a beautiful picture. Every pin has a reason, a detail, an element that brings the whole space together.

We can’t wait to show the transformation from Pinterest board to home.

Some of the best design decisions are the ones you barely notice.

The power point placed exactly where you need it. Joinery that aligns cleanly with the architecture. Lighting that feels natural rather than obvious. An airy feel to the space. Storage that disappears into the room. Transitions between materials that feel effortless.

None of these things necessarily demand attention on their own.

But together, they shape how calm, intuitive and resolved a space feels.

That’s often the difference between a room that simply looks beautiful and one that has been considered properly from the beginning.

The materials matter, but how they come together matters more.

How flooring transitions into another finish, how joinery connects with stone, and how colours, textures and finishes work together to create a cohesive interior.

These decisions happen long before anything is built. As interior designers, we sit with samples, compare finishes and consider how every element will work together in the finished space.

It’s why investing in an interior designer early in the process can make such a difference. We’re not choosing individual finishes in isolation. We’re considering the bigger picture, how everything connects, flows and feels as one considered design.

Because a beautiful interior isn’t about choosing beautiful materials. It’s about choosing the right materials and knowing exactly how to bring them together.

Knowing what to add is part of design. Knowing when to stop is just as important.

It can be tempting to keep introducing another finish, another material, another detail. Particularly when there are so many beautiful options available.

But a well-designed interior doesn’t need every idea to make it into the final space.

Sometimes the strongest decision is allowing one material to continue, repeating a detail rather than introducing something new, or giving the architecture enough space to speak for itself.

Restraint isn’t about making a space feel minimal or stripped back. It’s about editing with intention. It’s about understanding what is adding something meaningful, and what is simply adding more.

That’s often where a sense of quiet luxury comes from: proportion, consistency, materiality and knowing when the space already has enough.

I love this house, but it’s not a home.

As an interior designer, I hear this more often than you’d think. And there’s usually one main reason behind it.

Some of my favourite moments on any project are the early ones, when the architect, the builder and I are all standing on site together. It’s usually muddy, and there’s a lot of pointing at walls that don’t exist yet. But it’s where the good decisions start.

We’re all looking at the same home, just from different angles. The architect is thinking about the building itself. The builder is working out how to bring it to life. And I’m thinking about how it will feel to live there, from where the furniture goes to where the light falls in the morning.

So when a house doesn’t feel like a home, the reason is usually simple. The interior decisions were made too late.

The earlier the three of us come together, the sooner a house becomes a home.

If you’re only bringing an interior designer in once you’re choosing finishes and furniture, you’ve probably brought them in too late.

The value of good interior design is in the decisions that happen much earlier. How a space flows, how it functions day to day, where joinery sits, how lighting works, how materials connect and how all of those choices come together as one considered whole.

At Unfolded, we’re thinking about the lived experience of a space from the beginning. Not just what will photograph beautifully at the end.

Because the best interiors don’t just look pretty. They feel intuitive to live in.

A beautiful space can photograph well and still miss the mark.

For us, the real measure is what happens beyond the image. How intuitively the layout works, how the materials sit together, how the space supports the people using it, and how personal the end result feels.

That’s the part of design we care about most.

Creating spaces that feel considered, useful and deeply connected to the people they’re for, from the earliest conversations through to the final layer.

We’re currently taking on a small number of residential and commercial projects for 2027. Enquire via the link in bio.

Every project that ends here, starts somewhere.

There’s a lot that happens between the two.

Details get refined. Materials are considered and reconsidered. Problems get solved on site. And slowly, what started on paper begins to feel like a home.

The Macmasters Beach Residence is one of those projects where the finished space feels incredibly calm and effortless, but there was a lot of thought behind driving towards its completion.

That process is just as much a part of the project as the finished photos.
