Winter flowers may be few and far between, but that only makes them more special.

When much of the garden is resting, plants like hellebores, camellias, port w**e magnolia, arum lily’s, magnolia’s, berberis, and the beautifully fragrant daphne step forward to brighten the landscape. Their blooms bring welcome colour, texture, and scent, reminding us that every season has its own quiet beauty.

A thoughtfully designed garden offers something to enjoy all year round—and winter is no exception.
This week I had the pleasure of styling Prospect Country House for a corporate retreat and preparing Buscombe’s Restaurant for its media launch.

What are your favourite winter-flowering plants?

🌿 The Winter Rose — Hellebores 🌿

When much of the garden lies dormant, the hellebore quietly comes into its own.

Known as the Winter Rose, hellebores flower through the coldest months, their delicate blooms appearing when there is little else in flower. Perhaps that is why they have come to symbolise hope, resilience and quiet strength.

Their nodding flowers seem almost shy, yet they persist through frost, rain and winter’s darkest days — a gentle reminder that beauty doesn’t disappear simply because it is hidden for a while.

In the language of flowers, hellebores are associated with hope, serenity and the ability to endure difficult times.
