The Werombee Hive is a family-run farm in Theresa Park, NSW, where bees, creativity and country life come together.

Run by Stuart and Ally, we produce raw honey and handmade goods, host beekeeping and craft workshops, and welcome guests to our farmstay.

"How The Hive Was Created: The mosaics underfoot

Even the floors tell the story of the Hive. 🌻🐝

The mosaics underfoot were made by Ally too — a large sunflower in the living room, and three honeybees set into the kitchen, laundry and wardrobe. The tiling follows honeycomb patterns and the colours of our bees: warm golds, ambers and earthy tones.

I recently got to photograph my parents' farmstay and bee experience at The Werombee Hive in Theresa Park, NSW, and I loved every minute of it.

Edith got her own little beekeepers session at the hives. She saw how the bees make their honey, and she even got to try a bit of the waggle dance, the dance bees do to tell each other where the flowers are. She hasn't stopped talking about it since.

There's something about being right in among the hives. The sound of them, the smell of the honey, and watching the bees go about their work without paying you any attention at all.

I've shared a few of my favourite bee photos here. If you're ever out in the Wollondilly/Macarthur region, I can't recommend a visit enough. And yes, I'm a little biased. 😉

Now that I'm out in the garden most afternoons, I've been noticing everything that's starting to flower.

This waratah was photographed in a garden in Evandale, a small historic town in northern Tassie. It was early morning, and that deep red stood out against all the green around it.

I loved it so much that we planted our own waratah in our garden. It's the NSW waratah, so it always feels like a little bit of home to me, now growing in our Tassie garden.

I can't wait for ours to bloom. It might take a while, as it's still such a small plant, but I love the idea of having to wait for it. It makes it that little bit more special.

What a day for our homeschool beekeeping program today! I think a favourite part of the program is when the young learners get to hold a bee in their own hands! And of course when they get to do the bee waggle dance 🐝🐝🐝
