For Lisbon Design Week 2026, Casa Aether welcomed the work of Frederico who presented Adro, a collection of sculptural furniture elevating brushed aluminium through simple, architectural forms.

The material’s linear texture catches and shifts with the light, giving each piece a changing presence throughout the space. Somewhere between furniture and sculpture, the pieces become part of the architecture defined as much by their material presence as by the space that formes around them.

JAPANESE LESSON (02) A client recently asked me what I meant by “Designing the Void.” I told them about the Japanese concept of Ma — 間. The simplest idea that the space between things is as important as the things themselves.

In Western design, emptiness often looks unfinished. We rush to fill it. But sometimes, the most restorative thing you can add to a room is nothing.

In Casa Aether, MoonLight becomes the home’s defining architectural gesture.

Suspended across the room, this sculptural lighting draws a continuous line through the space, connecting architecture, light, and movement into one composition while leaving untouched the extraordinary original molding work of the ceilings. Handcrafted in fiberglass, and dancing over a belt of faux leather, MoonLight’s softly diffused glow transforms throughout the day, shaping the atmosphere as much as the architecture itself.

Originally conceived for Casa Aether, it became available for bespoke commission and produced to order thanks to your great interest.

JAPANESE LESSON #01 We did not go to Japan to discover that architecture affects the nervous system. This has been the focus of our work for years.

We went to experience these principles repeatedly and at full scale — through temples, gardens, tea houses, ryokans, onsens and contemporary architecture. Because some forms of knowledge cannot be gathered from photographs, drawings or theory.

The body has to experience the evidence.

This is not about reproducing a Japanese aesthetic. It is about recovering an understanding of space that much of contemporary Western design has lost: that architecture can shape attention, regulate pace and help the body feel safe.

Over the coming weeks, we will share each lesson individually and explore how it can transform the spaces in which we live, work and heal.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS. We are so excited to share that Arianna Bavuso will be speaking at TEDx Cortina this summer.

Through her work as an architect, artist, researcher and educator, Arianna explores how the architecture of our everyday life shapes the way we feel, behave, and connect with our environment. Her talk reflects on the relationship between design, wellbeing, and the rituals of everyday life. This is an ongoing research she started almost a decade ago on Design as a tool for personal growth, healing and transformation that informs both AB+AC’s architectural practice and her work in collectible design with the Alma Mater Collection.

At Casa Aether, every contribution was carefully chosen to become part of a shared spatial narrative.

For Lisbon Design Week 2026, we invited to present the Ayumi collection, a series of handcrafted lamps that celebrates the beauty of Japanese washi paper.

With a history spanning more than 1,300 years, washi paper is traditionally handcrafted from natural plant fibres such as kōzo, mitsumata, and gampi. Valued for its remarkable strength and its ability to diffuse light with exceptional softness, each sheet carries subtle variations in texture, fibres, and organic inclusions, revealing the time and craftsmanship behind its making. Beginning as a single circle of handmade paper, every lampshade is carefully pleated and shaped by hand, preserving a traditional Japanese technique while giving it a contemporary expression.
