At the end of a construction project, there are very often surplus quantities of unused materials. What’s less common, however, is when the leftover consists of a uniform batch of 400 m² of glazed wall tiles, such as the one we have just recovered! The one (and only) issue we have with this tile, is describing the color: is it a mint green, pistachio-shaded, or rather a hue of sage? Since everyone sees colors differently, let’s simply conclude that it pairs nicely with a variety of other materials. We’re thinking: textured marble, glass tiles with motif, or maybe some pastel colored chairs? This & more available in our (web)shop. Welcome to RotorDC!

So happy to see our reclaimed marble used in this project by !

For the renovation of this townhouse in Anderlecht, designed for a family of five, the floor of the room above the kitchen was removed, creating a double-height space. The exposed brickwork of the walls, left unplastered and simply coated with a lime paint, contrasts with the new, meticulously crafted features. Our reclaimed marble was used for the bathroom cladding and kitchen worktop!

Other reused materials were also incorporated in the project. For example, wooden beams recovered from the demolition of the floor above the kitchen were used to construct a surprising balcony, topped with a perforated steel panel.

This week, it was furniture time all over again! Besides a batch of Pagholz chairs, we received office furniture from the former RTBF broadcasting complex. To those of you who’ve been asking for drawer units for some time now: we are proud to present a collection of 80 pieces! Also worth noting: around 30 ‘Eastside’ cantilever chairs by Steelcase. The latter all have a small imperfection on the backrest, from where the mesh bumps against the table when a chair is being put back. Apart from this, the chairs are in excellent shape, and they’re only 39 € each!

To counterbalance these more neutral (some may say ‘gray’) colors, we reviewed 40 colourful lampshades. Time to mix & match!

And since we’re busy cleaning and organizing (interpret this as a subtle reminder about our ongoing ‘outdoor area’ discount!), we added different sinks to the inventory, as well as building parts for the K’nex-like modular shelvings by Metalsistem.

Back open: ‘bar Lisbet’ (formerly ‘Bar Eliza’) in Koekelberg’s Elizabeth park! You may remember the refreshment stand nestled under the century-old plane trees. Since 2019, the venue is closed due to works. The project, jointly commissioned by .brussels and , was conceived by the architects of .brussels. The single-story brick building, dating from 1958 and originally a ‘pavilion for the use of retired citizens’, has been topped with a particularly delightful upper storey, proudly showcasing generous roof eaves.

Beyond preserving the brickwork, the team made several interesting choices regarding materials, incorporating elements sourced from reuse or dead stocks. At Rotor DC, we had the honour to provide 55 m² of reclaimed yellow ceramic tiles sourced from the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, 140 m² of brown ceramic floor tiles from a surplus, and 10 ‘Clea’ hanging lights produced in our lighting workshop. The project also includes 2nd-hand doors and sanitary equipment provided by , as well as bricks of exactly the right size that the general contractor Balcaen was able to salvage from another site! And guess what? The façade cladding is made of beech wood sourced from Brussel’s Sonian Forest! This required a particular approach to the tendering process, which enabled .brussels to provide the material. And on the first floor, you’ll also recognize the Sonian wood parquet that we also supply!

What about the wide roof eaves? They lend character to the building, but that’s not all. In fact, the use of this age-old architectural feature also protects the façade from rainwater, thereby extending the lifetime of the cladding it shelters.
xselair was chosen to run and animate the ground floor of bar Lisbet. Alongside coffee or a refreshment, you can also enjoy a breakfast, a salad, toast or soup here, as well as a program of local cultural events. You might be wondering: what’s going on upstairs? Well, the upper floor houses the most beautiful office you could possibly imagine for the park guardians service (true!).
