Room for everyone, and one great room that brings them together.

The Rocklyn 4105 is a 3,368 sq. ft. timber frame family home with five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The two-storey great room, with its central fireplace and wall of windows, is the heart of the house. Upstairs, a central sitting room overlooks it, with two bedroom wings and shared bathrooms on either side.

It's right at home on a cottage lot, and it would look just as good dressed as a modern farmhouse in the country.

to Elevated Modern Timber, a home that started with a teardown near Collingwood.

Our client wanted something modern and contemporary, with all the warmth of timber frame. We began with our Kershaw 3808 and customized it for her lot and her views. The big move was a 10-foot walkout basement that lifts the main floor higher on the property, so the great room looks right out over the landscape.

Inside, you'll find clear pine ceilings, a floor-to-ceiling black marble fireplace, and a kitchen with powder-blue cabinetry and a marble backsplash. Our favourite spot might be the screened timber porch with its own wood-burning stove.

Built with our project partners at Ballantyne Builds.

It's Throwback Thursday, and we're going back to the A-frame. In the 1950s it was the weekend cabin everyone wanted: simple, affordable, and quick to build.

The Highland 4100 keeps that iconic shape and adds the space people want today. It has a cathedral-ceiling great room with timber from floor to peak, big window walls, and a primary suite tucked up in the loft. The plan includes 2,488 sq. http://ft., three bedrooms, and two bathrooms.

From framing to finishes in Innisfil. πŸ‚

In July, the frame and roof trusses were going up on this waterfront lot. By September, the windows were in, the board and batten siding was going on, and a stone base was in place.

We're working with local builder Dada Homes to supply and install this slightly modified version of our Brighton design.

to one of our favourite questions: can a timber frame home be a green home? 🌲

Absolutely. Renewable wood, high-performance wall and roof systems, and prefabricated components that cut down on construction waste all work in your favour. Our house plans are Net Zero Ready and ENERGY STAR ready, so efficiency is built in from day one.

Here's what to think about when planning your own green timber frame build:

The frame package is one part of a custom home budget β€” not the whole thing.

Land assessments, permits, site prep, septic, and utility connections all add up, especially on rural or waterfront properties. In Part 2 of Building with the Site, we break down what to plan for beyond the frame, and how early planning keeps costs from becoming surprises.

πŸ•°οΈ TBT to Timber Retreat β€” a 4,775 sq. ft. lakeside cottage built for family and friends to gather.

Six bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, cathedral wood ceilings, and windows everywhere you look, all angled to soak in the lake view. But ask the homeowners and they'll tell you their favourite room isn't the great room β€” it's the Muskoka room. Built facing the water, it's the spot where you get that "outside" feeling without the bugs. Add in a matching boathouse down at the water's edge, and you've got a property that's made for long weekends.

Big cathedral ceilings. A tiny footprint. This is The Tobermory 3949.

At just 1,345 sq. ft., this timber frame home proves small doesn't mean cramped β€” cathedral ceilings soar over the great room, kitchen and dining room, with a loft that looks right down over it all.

Main floor primary bedroom walks straight out to the deck. Add the optional basement and you've got 1,104 more sq. ft. β€” 2 more bedrooms, a bath, living room, laundry and storage.

Starting at $335,000 CAD. Net Zero and Energy Star ready. Completely customizable.

A window is never just an opening β€” it's daylight, a view, and part of how the architecture reads inside and out.

Frame material, glazing amount, and the glass package all play a role, and they don't all need the same answer. In our latest blog, we walk through 5 frame options β€” PVC, fibreglass, aluminum-clad wood, aluminum, and wood β€” and how to weigh the trade-offs for your project.
