Every Catlin home begins long before ground is broken.

This week for Renovation Month, we're taking a closer look at pre-construction, the stage that sets every Catlin build apart.

It's where design is fully resolved, room by room. Budgets are grounded in real numbers and considered allowances before a contract is signed. Finishes, fixtures and millwork are curated with intention, and every project moves forward with a complete construction set in hand.

The result is a build that unfolds with clarity, confidence and very few surprises.

October is Renovation Month, and all month long we’ll take a closer look at the Catlin Standard.

The Catlin Standard is how every project is planned, managed and delivered.

This week starts with a question every homeowner should ask: who's managing my project?

At Catlin, it's a dedicated team, with every role clearly defined. Pre-construction resolves scope, budget and design before we build. Project coordination keeps schedules, selections and trades aligned. Site supervision is on site daily, holding every detail to our standard. And operations keeps tight control of every project while serving as your direct connection to the build.

Some details leave very little room for error.

The tongue-and-groove ceiling at Shoreview was stained before installation, which means every board needs to be carefully handled, measured, cut, scribed and fit into place without damaging the finished surface.

Add in working overhead, and it's a job that takes patience and precision from start to finish.

It's a great example of the work our carpenters put into the details that ultimately make a space feel complete.

Good carpentry isn't just about how something looks when it's finished — it's how you get it there.

A little sneak peek at a project we’ve been waiting to share. 🤎

Warm woods, curved details, custom millwork, layered textures and plenty of character. Every space in this home was thoughtfully considered while still feeling comfortable and lived in.

And this is only the beginning.

Two staircases, two different vibes — both built by the Catlin team. Swipe through.👉
Slide 1-3: A straight run in rift-cut white oak, finished in a warm walnut tone with matte black spindles. Tight joints on the newel posts, clean contrast between the wood grain and the black metal, and the arched mirror and console table pull the whole landing together.

Slide 4-5: A lighter take — softer oak tone, open risers, and a joinery detail on the newel post that shows where the time really goes. Every angle has to line up clean, because a staircase like this doesn't hide mistakes.
Same craftsmanship, two completely different directions. That's the part we love about custom builds — no two staircases ever look the same.
