Guests coming this season? Here is the difference between the two cleans people ask about.

A standard clean is the upkeep: 42 tasks, including the inside of the microwave. A deep clean is 53 tasks and adds the detail work, like inside the oven, inside the fridge if it is empty, baseboards, doors, window frames and blinds.

If the house has had regular cleaning, standard is usually enough. If it has been a while, start with the deep clean. Both checklists are public, so you can read them before you call.

The next time most people really look at their house is the day before guests arrive.

Thanksgiving is three weeks out, and the stretch from there to New Year is the busiest hosting run of the year. It is also the busiest cleaning run of the year, which means October and November deep clean slots go first and the ones left over are the awkward weekday mornings.

If you already know you will want the house done before people come over, the useful move is to put it in the calendar now rather than in the week it matters.

We do not quote a building we have not walked.

Square footage tells you almost nothing. Two offices the same size can be completely different jobs depending on the floor type, how many washrooms there are, what the entrance takes in winter, and how many people are actually in the building on a Tuesday.

So we walk it first, write down the scope, and quote that. It takes about half an hour and it is the reason our quotes tend to still be accurate in month eight.

Most commercial cleaning disputes are not about effort. They are about scope.

The nightly clean gets done. Then the floors go dull, the vents get dusty, the windows never get touched, and everyone is frustrated, because nobody wrote down whose job those were.

A commercial contract worth signing separates the work by frequency: what happens every visit, what happens monthly, and what happens two or three times a year. Ask any provider to show you theirs in writing. If they cannot, that is the answer.

We put it in writing before anything is signed, and we do the periodic work ourselves rather than referring it out.

Same entrance. One deep clean between the two halves.

The entry of a commercial building takes more traffic than any other square metre of it, and it is the first thing every visitor sees. It also degrades slowly enough that the people who walk through it daily stop noticing.

This is the state most Calgary lobbies are in by the end of a season, and the state they can be back in within one visit.

Three things worth walking your building for before the snow arrives.

Entrances, hard floors, and washrooms. All three get measurably harder to keep on top of from November onward, and tenants, clients, and inspectors notice all three.

Checking them in September is a twenty-minute walk. Fixing them in January is a project.

If you manage a building, office, or multi-unit property in Calgary and the current arrangement isn't holding up, that is usually a scope problem, not an effort problem.

Your contractor finished. The house is not finished.

Post-renovation dust is its own category. It is fine enough to travel through the whole house, it settles again after the first pass, and it sits inside light fixtures, on top of door frames, in the tracks of every window, and through the ductwork. A regular clean does not remove it, it just moves it.

Fall is renovation handover season in Calgary. If a project just wrapped, this is a different job than your usual clean, and it is one we do.
