Some entrances have a character all their own. 🖤

With its beautiful arched portico, classic columns and architectural details, this home already had a stunning front entrance. The goal was to choose a new door that complemented those features rather than compete with them.

This black Victoria Shaker Slab Door does just that! Featuring sandblasted edge glass, a matte black Gripset, white vinyl frame and custom cladding, it brings a beautiful contrast to the home's traditional white exterior.

When you're investing in new windows, doors or siding, understanding when and how you'll be expected to pay is just as important as knowing what products you're purchasing.

Deposits are a normal part of many home improvement projects, particularly when materials are custom ordered. But homeowners should always know exactly what they're agreeing to before making a payment.

Did you know that Nova Scotia also has a 10% construction holdback requirement under the Builders' Lien Act? It's an important protection that can apply to home renovation projects, helping protect property owners against certain unpaid contractor and supplier claims.

At Windows Plus, we collect an upfront deposit and the remaining balance is always due upon completion. We would never require payment in full before installation takes place.

A beautiful new entrance that combines classic style with modern details!

This black Soho Shaker Slab Door makes a statement, complemented by sidelites featuring sandblasted glass for privacy with clear edging that allows natural light to shine through.

Above, a round transom with clear glass adds architectural interest and even more natural light.

What makes this installation particularly special is the attention to detail. The entire entry was custom fitted to the existing brickwork, creating a beautiful, seamless finish. A satin nickel Gripset completes the look.

It's another great example of how the right door, thoughtful design and experienced installation can make all the difference!

What exactly is Low-E glass - and why does it matter?

Low-E glass, argon gas and Super Spacer® are three components that work together in Gentek's EnergyPlus glass packages to help improve the energy efficiency of your windows.

Low-E Glass: A virtually invisible coating that helps reduce heat transfer while still allowing natural light into your home.

Argon Gas: An insulating gas between the panes of glass that helps slow heat transfer.

Super Spacer®: A structural foam spacer system that separates the glass panes and helps reduce heat transfer around the edges.

Together, these features help keep your home more comfortable through our cold Nova Scotia winters, improve energy efficiency and provide added UV protection compared to standard clear glass units.

It's a great example of how there's much more to a window than what you can see!

Not every window replacement is straightforward - and this one required a little creativity!

The goal with this historic home was to replace the original wooden window while keeping the look and character that had been part of the house for years.

To recreate it, four individual window units were customized and joined together at the factory to create one large window that closely resembles the original design.

It’s a great example of how replacing old windows doesn’t have to mean changing what makes an older home special. Sometimes it’s about finding the right solution to preserve the look while bringing the windows up to date.

And for our team, figuring out those unusual projects is all part of the job.
