Last week. 30% off the 12″ mulch mats.
Here’s the part most people get wrong: water the ground deeply first, then lay the mat. Mulch holds in whatever moisture is already there — put one down on dry soil and you’ve just sealed in a dry root zone for the whole winter.
Then it’s about a minute. Slide it around the stem, stake two corners, soak it through.

Last week to save on the 12″ mulch mats — 30% off until Sunday, October 25.

If you planted anything this year, this is the weekend to get it covered. Not because of the sale, but because a mulch mat has to go down on soil you can still push a stake into. Once the top few inches set hard it waits until spring, and by spring the freeze-thaw has already done its work — that cycle of expanding and contracting soil is what lifts shallow roots out of the ground over winter.

One mat, about a minute per plant. Pre-cut slit to the centre, so you slide it around the stem, stake two corners and soak it through. No measuring, no cutting, nothing to pull back up in three years — it composts into the soil where it sits.

Trees and shrubs, fall-planted garlic, spring bulbs, grape vines, raised beds. 12″ square and circle, in the 5 pack and the 120 pack. The discount comes off automatically at checkout, no code needed.

Mulch Mats working their magic ✨🌱

These are pine seedlings in a nursery row, each one planted through a TerraFibre h**p mulch mat. Look at the soil either side of the row and then look at the mat — that contrast is the whole product.

For planting programs the w**d competition isn’t the expensive part. The expensive part is going back. Plastic w**d mats have to be collected and disposed of, which means a second pass across the whole site, crew time, and a disposal cost at the other end.

H**p mats hold three to four years — long enough to get a seedling established — and then compost into the soil. The job is finished when you walk away from it.

We supply these to tree farms, nurseries and municipal planting programs across Western Canada, in custom sizes and bulk volumes made to order in Drayton Valley, Alberta.

12″ mats are 30% off through fall for smaller plantings. Bulk and custom sizes quoted on request.

Anywhere you want roots held at a steadier temperature and moisture level over winter, a mat does the job:

Trees and shrubs — young plantings lose the water race against grass. A mat clears the root zone while they establish.

Spring bulbs — tulips, daffodils, alliums and crocuses. Steadier soil temperature means less frost heave.

Fall-planted garlic — in the ground in October, out in July. The bed stays covered and w**d-free the whole way.

Grape vines — young canes need consistent moisture and no competition at the base while the roots go deep.

Planters and raised beds — above-ground soil is exposed on every side, so it freezes hardest and dries fastest.

The same mat handles all of them. It blocks 100% of light so w**ds never start, holds over ten times its weight in water, and after three to four years it composts into the soil rather than needing pulled up.

Our 12″ mats are 30% off at the moment, square or circle, from $10.49.

Installing one of these takes about a minute.

Every mat comes pre-cut with a slit to the centre, so there's no measuring and no cutting — slide it around the base of the plant, lay it flat, tap in two stakes on diagonal corners, and soak it through. A wet mat beds down against the soil and starts holding moisture straight away.

After that it's hands-off. Three to four years of blocking w**ds without chemicals and holding over ten times its weight in water, then it composts in place. No plastic to pull up in a few years' time.

Our 12″ mats are 30% off at the moment, in both square and circle. The discount is already applied — no code needed.

Chickens scratch, they settle and rearrange 🐓

The trouble is what that natural behaviour works into the nest over time: moisture, manure, feathers, debris. A box that was clean last week isn’t anymore, and you usually notice it first in the egg basket.

Two things keep it manageable.

Start with a clean, dry box — clear out the debris, wipe it down if it needs it, and let it dry fully before a fresh sheet goes in.

Then use something built for the job. Our Poultry Nesting Sheets are 100% h**p fibre mechanically bonded into a biodegradable pulp backing, so the fibres stay in the sheet instead of scattered across your coop floor.

Place it. Check it. Replace it when it needs it. That’s the whole routine.

Four eggs, no cracks 🥚

This is a TerraFibre h**p nesting sheet after a morning's laying. Pre-cut to 13" × 13" so it drops straight into a standard box, 1000 gsm thick, and cushioned enough that eggs settle instead of rolling.

Why h**p works in a nest box:
🪶 Absorbent, so the box stays drier between changes
🪶 Low dust — better air for your birds and for you
🪶 Naturally insulating through an Alberta winter
🪶 Cleanout is lifting one sheet out, not mucking out loose bedding
🪶 100% compostable when it's spent

Made from Canadian h**p at our facility in Drayton Valley.

Most of us mulch in spring. Fall is when it actually does the work 🍂

Four things a fall layer does that a spring one can't:

🌱 Stops frost heave — freeze-thaw cycles lift shallow-rooted plants right out of the ground
🌱 Holds moisture through a drying winter
🌱 Gets ahead of spring w**ds before they ever see light
🌱 Keeps the biology in your soil active longer
The line worth remembering: mulch doesn't stop the ground freezing. It stops it repeatedly unfreezing.

That's the part that does the damage.

If you're on the Prairies, now through early October is the window. Swipe through, save it for the weekend

5-7 days. That’s it! 🌱

Here's how it's done:

💦 Step 1: Soak your growing mat with water, scatter your seeds evenly, and give them a gentle mist
🌑 Step 2: Cover and place in a dark spot until germination kicks in
🌿 Step 3 (Days 3–4): Shoots reach 2–4cm and root firmly into the mat — time to transition to the light phase!
☀️ Step 4: A few more days of light and love
🥗 Step 5: Snip, plate, and enjoy the freshest greens you've ever had

No garden? No problem. No green thumb? Still no problem. Just a tray, some seeds, and a little daily attention.
