At 43 years old…
with a wife, 3 boys, a business, responsibilities, stress, and a brain that never shuts off…

the last thing I expected to change my life was my 10 year old son asking me to try Jiu Jitsu with him.

At first it was just about supporting my boys.

Now it’s become one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.

Jiu Jitsu gave me:

* structure,
* discipline,
* confidence,
* fitness,
* stress relief,
* humility,
* better decision making,
* and a community of incredible people.

For an hour or two, nothing else matters.
Not the business.
Not the stress.
Not the pressure.

Just learning, problem solving, surviving, and improving.

And honestly…
rolling on the mats with my son is something I’ll probably value more than almost anything I accomplish in business.

Crazy how one small question from your kid can completely change your life.

“Dad, will you come do Jiu Jitsu with me?”

Shoutout to the business owners who started with nothing.

No investors.
No connections.
No safety net.
No blueprint.

Just stress, sacrifice, risk, and the willingness to keep showing up when things weren’t working.

The ones who:

* miss sleep,
* work weekends,
* doubt themselves,
* make mistakes,
* lose money,
* got burned by people,
* and still keep going.

People see the trucks, equipment, shop, staff, and success…

but they don’t see:

* the panic,
* the pressure,
* the breakdowns,
* the unpaid hours,
* the lonely decisions,
* and the years of uncertainty it takes to build.

A lot of businesses weren’t built with confidence and help.

They were built with pure grit and determination.

Storm Damaged Tree call on Saturday afternoon, 1.5hrs away.
100% rain forecast all night.
Tree over a river.
On a building at Canada’s Wonderland.
Photos that somehow never show the full picture.

The whole drive your brain is spinning:

* How soft is the ground going to be?
* Can the crane even access it?
* What’s the crane capacity at that distance?
* Are we lifting over water?
* Is the tree supported or holding tension?
* How compromised is the structure underneath?
* Is this going to work??

You start mentally building the entire job before you even arrive:
equipment,
rigging plans,
piece weights,
lighting,
Truck positioning,
weather,
mud,
crane setup,
escape routes,
and every possible thing that could go wrong in the dark and pouring rain.

And on top of all of it…
there’s the pressure of not letting anyone down.

Not the client.
Not your crew.
Not the crane operator.
Not the people trusting you to figure it out safely.

This is the side of storm work nobody sees.

Before the cameras.
Before the chainsaws.
Before the “cool tree videos.”

Just a long drive toward an unpredictable problem knowing your decisions matter the second you pull in. .tree

Monthly meeting & training day for the crew today. Breakfast, laughs & lots of topics were discussed including core values, crew updates, acknowledgements & achievements, training and crew feedback. We are always developing new standards here and encourage constant growth amongst the team.
