Localeaf Native plant nursery cultivating community, canopy and change, from seed, in Aylmer (QC).

We are a small family owned business focused on accessible, environmentally beneficial gardening, native and edible plants, creative landscaping and garden design. Local Leaf was born from a desire to change our lifestyle and concentrate on the things in life that bring us joy, while spending more time as a family. We have passed on this passion to our kids, who take an active role and central role in our little business.

Yard signs make a difference. People walking by read them. Sometimes they can spark conversation. Sometimes they can change minds.

I collect and reuse leaves from my neighbours. I also love the thw simple power of signs.

I came across one that I fell in love with. Unfortunately for me the artist is in America, and had never shipped to Canada before. We had some lovely chats and back and forth conversations and I became her Canadian shipping guinea pig. I don't promote things on my account and this is nothing more than a shout-out to an amazing and talented human, with a brilliant voice and unique contribution to urban ecosystem restoration.

Thanks , love my sign, and my neighbours' bags of leaves are starting to pour in. Welcome to Canada! 🇨🇦

🌱🌱🌱

There is something so magical about watching children and community come together, across generations.

We seek small actions, to make a small difference, but often forget to look around and recognize the collective impact of those small actions, particularly for our immediate community.

Some photos from our Samedi des Semis | Seedling Saturday Aylmer Seedling Saturday event today.

A huge thank you to PSA's Senior ActiLeaders, and the volunteers from Grande Riviere for helping to make our event a success, and to l'Imagier for their 'buzzing' elementary programming.

Last but not least, to our Pollinate / Polliniser Aylmer volunteers and Butterflyway Rangers who put in countless hours to make these events happen, grow The Aylmer Seed Project, and ignite the sparkle in our community.

I have no words. I was with several peeps when we found this chrysalis attached to a temporary fence in my yard, about 2 weeks ago. We protected it outdoors, checked on it often, and today I noticed it was dark and wanted to see transparent the coating was. This happened, and it was magical.

It's currently feasting on a Northern Blazing Star (Liatris nieuwlandii) in a section of garden protected from my chickens, waiting for its wings to dry.

Some highlights from our weekend canoe painting party, and our 16th pollinator habitat garden at Centre d'action bénévole Accès.

We counted over 300 volunteers, festival goers and young stewards in the making stopping to help us paint, plant and chat with us about what we are doing and why over the weekend, and we are pretty happy with how colourful this planting looks already, before the blooms that will start showing off next year.

Read our latest blog post for more details and more photos, and thank you to everyone who came out to help and support us as we continue to grow Canopée Localeaf.

🦋🦋🦋

Canopée Localeaf is at Access Volunteer Centre during the Aylmer 500 festival. With Pollinate Aylmer volunteers, we prepared native plant kits to start your own pollinator garden.

Each kit includes 9 species carefully chosen to transform your yard into a thriving habitat. We offer 3 versions:

'Mild Child' for a tidier garden, 'Wild Child' for a more natural garden and 'SPF50' for shade gardens.

You pay what you can for the kit, with a suggested $30 donation (that’s less than $4 per plant!).

Proceeds will go toward helping to finance an ambitious multi phase project to revitalize the courtyard and gardens of the Aylmer Food Bank, complete with the creation of an urban Miyawaki mini Forest, a thriving food forest and outdoor learning space.

We have limited quantities, so come quick to pick up your kit! Help us grow Canopée Aylmer!
