Happy Halloween from Wysocki Inspection, Installation and Repair!

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update before the spooky season really kicks in. We’ve been fortunate enough to get back in with the contractor I’ve worked with for most of my life, and he’s been able to supply us with steady daily work that wasn’t available to us before.

If I’ve been slow to respond, missed a message, or seemed a little flaky lately, I apologize. Thankfully, we’re staying busy right now, which means we can’t take on much extra at the moment.

That being said, we’ll still be around soon for Christmas light installs and eavestrough cleaning as the leaves start falling and the weather turns.

Thanks again to everyone who has reached out, recommended us, or supported the business. We appreciate it more than you know!

A few weeks ago I met a kid at a volunteer event at Fairy Lake.

He and his brother spent quite a bit of time hanging around the fire trucks. We talked skateboarding, music, and whatever else came up. At one point I made a bet with him: one dollar says you can’t hit that target with the fire hose.

He hit it.

I didn’t have the dollar.

Fast forward three weeks. I’m scrolling Facebook and I see his picture attached to a fundraiser.

Turns out this kid has been awarded a James Bullbrook Grant to attend the world-famous Woodward Skate Camp in Pennsylvania.

The grant is awarded to young athletes who show dedication, passion, and commitment to their sport. After meeting him, I’m not surprised he was selected.

Skateboarding has become much more than a hobby for him. It’s taught him perseverance, confidence, discipline, and how to get back up after every fall. He’s put in countless hours, pushed through frustration, and worked hard to earn opportunities like this.

The grant covers $500 USD, but there is still about $1,100 USD remaining, plus the costs of getting him from Ontario to Pennsylvania.

I only spent a short time talking with this kid, but sometimes that’s all it takes. He was polite, respectful, motivated, and genuinely excited about what he loves.

Summer is standing at the door.

The spring rush has carried us this far. The phone has rung often enough. The trucks have moved. The invoices have gone out. We’ve been fortunate. But after more than twenty years in this business, you learn to recognize what’s coming long before it arrives.

The slowdown is out there.

Not here yet. Not today. But somewhere beyond the next few weeks, waiting.

This morning the rain is coming down hard. The kind of rain that drowns out conversation and turns every surface dark. Water is pouring off roofs, racing through eavestroughs, finding every weakness it can. A rainfall like this has a way of creating work. Somewhere, a homeowner is discovering a leak. Somewhere else, an overflowing gutter is spilling water where it shouldn’t be. Problems reveal themselves in weather like this.

Yesterday started with emergency calls that pushed our scheduled work aside. Plans changed before the day had a chance to begin. That’s the reality sometimes. You adjust and keep moving.

Dan is off today, spending time with his son. Those days matter. Work will always be waiting tomorrow.

As for me, I was up before dawn, dressed and ready. The plan was to tackle brush and overgrowth that’s been creeping in for months. Looking out the window now, everything is soaked. Grass bent over under the weight of the rain. Branches dripping. Ground turning soft. There isn’t much sense in fighting conditions that have already won.

So the coffee stays hot, the rain keeps falling, and the day remains unwritten.

Maybe the phone rings.

Maybe it doesn’t.

Either way, the rain is doing what rain has always done—testing roofs, filling gutters, exposing weaknesses, and reminding people that maintenance delayed is rarely maintenance avoided.
