🌱 From plant waste to something pretty amazing!
Ever wondered how biochar is actually made? It's a clever process with some impressive benefits for both our gardens and the planet.
It starts with organic plant material, which is heated at high temperatures with very little oxygen. This process, called pyrolysis, transforms the material into biochar while locking much of its carbon into a stable, solid form.
And here's where it gets interesting! 🌎
Rather than that carbon being released back into the atmosphere as the plant material decomposes, it can remain stored in the soil for a very long time.
But that's only half the story.
Once added to soil, biochar helps retain moisture and nutrients while providing a welcoming home for the beneficial microorganisms that keep our soil healthy and our plants thriving.
So we're not just improving the soil we grow in today. We're helping look after the planet for tomorrow, too. 🌿
Pretty impressive for something that started out as plant material, wouldn't you say?
