The Crimson Console.

Finished.

This piece began as an exploration of Japanese-inspired proportions, traditional joinery and a little controlled asymmetry — and slowly developed an identity of its own.

Six individually sized drawers sit within a warm, aged timber frame, finished in a deep layered crimson that still allows the grain of the wood to move through the colour.

The details became just as important as the overall form: exposed joinery, box-jointed drawers, framed side panels, a fully finished back, antique-style brass ring pulls and a hand-worked top that still carries the subtle texture of the wood beneath the finish.

We wanted it to feel as though it had a history without pretending to be an antique.

Something familiar, but difficult to place.

A little piece of Ontario furniture history has entered the shop.

This beautiful antique sideboard still carries its original Knechtel Furniture Co. Ltd. label, identifying it as coming from the company’s Walkerton factory.

Inside, we found even more of its story—dovetailed drawers, old factory markings and the wonderfully simple designation No. 34½.

It has clearly lived a life. The finish is worn, some hardware has been replaced, and more than a century of bumps, scratches and repairs have accumulated along the way.

But the bones are beautiful.

Dark carved details, bow-front drawers, wonderful proportions and some very promising wood hiding beneath that tired finish.

No. 34½ is about to begin its next chapter.

We already have a direction in mind, and we’ll be documenting the transformation as we go.

And yes—when the work is finished, this one will be looking for a new home.

Follow along. We think this one’s going to be special.

We wanted to create something for fall that wasn’t simply another decoration.

This handcrafted Gothic-inspired crate was designed to become part of your seasonal display — fill it with mums, pumpkins, lanterns or whatever fall looks like at your home. When the season is over, it becomes storage for the decorations themselves.

Built from solid wood and finished with hand-shaped, hammered brass corners, every one will have a little character of its own.

This Victorian Renaissance Revival mahogany writing table, believed to date from roughly 1865–1880, came into the shop with a tired, silvered finish, structural splits and nearly 150 years of wear.

Rather than stripping away its history, we took a conservation-minded approach — carefully cleaning the original surface, repairing the structure, preserving the hand-carved details and rebuilding the finish with traditional shellac.

Beneath all that age was some absolutely beautiful mahogany.

The original leather top still needs a little attention, but the transformation so far is pretty hard to ignore.

What’s on the bench today.

A very unusual Victorian mahogany writing table, likely dating to around 1865–1880.

Hand-cut joinery, carved trestle supports, hidden storage, a full-width fitted writing drawer and an original leather top that has seen better days.

First step is a careful clean and a few structural repairs. The goal with this one isn’t to make it new — it’s to bring back what’s already there.

More to come as we uncover it.

Another custom project finished.

These wall shelves were built to fit a very specific space, with each piece sized to the client’s measurements and finished in a warm natural stain to complement their home.

Every project is a little different, and that’s one of the things we enjoy most—taking an idea and building something that’s made specifically for the space it will live in.

Really happy with how these turned out. Looking forward to seeing them installed.

If you’ve got an awkward wall or a space that needs something custom, we’d love to help.

Every great backyard starts as an idea.

Sometimes it’s a deck.
Sometimes it’s a pergola.
Sometimes it’s finally creating a space where family and friends want to gather.

If you’ve been thinking…

“Maybe this year.”

We’d love to help you explore what’s possible.

What would you do with this yard?

We started with a blank backyard and came up with two different concepts, each designed around a modest budget.

🌿 Option 1
A peaceful Japanese-inspired retreat with cedar walkways, natural planting, and a quiet place to unwind.

🔥 Option 2
A traditional entertaining backyard with a BBQ area, flower gardens, and a fire pit for family and friends.

Which one would you choose?

🅰️ Option 1

🅱️ Option 2

Or… what would you add?
