🍂❄️ FROST ON YOUR LAWN? WATCH YOUR STEP!
Those beautiful, sparkling autumn mornings might be hiding a little trouble for your grass! 🌱
As temperatures drop across Western Canada, frost is becoming a familiar sight on neighbourhood lawns. And while it might look harmless, walking across frost-covered grass can actually cause damage.
Here’s why! 👇
When frost forms, grass blades become more brittle and vulnerable to physical damage. Walking, mowing or dragging equipment across frozen turf can injure the grass, sometimes leaving visible footprints or damaged patches once temperatures warm.
💚 A few fall lawn care tips from Green Drop Lawn Care:
❄️ Wait for the thaw. Avoid unnecessary foot traffic on frosty grass until the frost has completely melted.
🌱 Hold off on mowing. If your lawn is covered in frost, give it time to thaw before bringing out the mower.
🍂 Watch changing conditions. From Calgary and Edmonton to Red Deer, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg, autumn weather can vary dramatically. Some lawns may still be growing, while others are already experiencing freezing temperatures or early snowfall.
🏡 Think ahead to spring. Protecting your grass during the fall-to-winter transition can help reduce unnecessary stress before winter dormancy.
The takeaway? Sometimes the best thing you can do for your lawn is simply leave it alone for a few hours!
And remember, frost on your lawn doesn’t necessarily mean the growing season is completely over. Local temperatures and growing conditions matter more than the calendar.
