A Sense of Joy ceramic Exhibtion — Artist Introduction | assa

Based in Kasama, Ibaraki, Japan, ceramic artist assa. brings animals and whimsical characters to life through her pottery. With a free-spirited approach to illustration and a playful use of colour, she creates a world filled with charm, imagination, and warmth.

Pandas, mermaids, little girls and other delightful characters appear across her cups and vases, turning familiar everyday objects into something unexpected. Each piece seems to hold its own little story, bringing a smile and adding a sense of wonder to simple daily rituals — whether enjoying a cup of tea or arranging flowers at home.

For A Sense of Joy, assa.’s work reminds us to notice the happiness hidden in ordinary moments. Sometimes, joy is found in the simplest things — something beautiful to look at, something lovely to hold, and something that makes us smile.

【Group Exhibition: A Sense Of Joy. 】

Perhaps happiness lies in noticing the quiet, fleeting moments woven into our everyday lives.

The first sip of freshly brewed coffee in the morning. A thoughtfully prepared lunch, beautifully arranged on a favourite plate. An afternoon spent sharing tea and conversation with friends.

For this exhibition, we are delighted to bring together four ceramic artists, each with their own unique perspective and expression. We invite you to take your time, wander among their creations, discover the pieces that speak to you, and bring home your own interpretation of happiness.

Every cat has a little world of its own. 🐈

A different gaze, a different gesture, a different expression on every piece. As a cat lover, perhaps the joy lies in capturing all those little moments that make each cat so irresistibly lovable. 🤍

A little happiness for autumn.🍂

Good objects have a quiet way of making us happy.
And as the days begin to grow colder,
perhaps we need them even more —
the kind of pottery that brings a little warmth back into an ordinary day.

Making a hot cup of coffee, breathing in the aroma as it slowly fills the room, watching the rain outside darken the red maple leaves one by one.

These moments are small. So small that we often let them pass without noticing. We have simply forgotten to notice the little things that make us feel happy.

A favourite cup held between both hands. The warmth of tea on a cold afternoon. A plate that makes a simple breakfast feel a little more special.

An object we reach for every day, without even thinking about why we love it so much. Perhaps happiness lives in moments like these.

———

Autumn in Vancouver always seems to arrive at just the right time. The air becomes cooler, the light softer,
and suddenly we begin spending a little more time at home.

This autumn, we are very happy to bring together four ceramic artists whose works each carry their own sense of warmth, playfulness, and quiet joy.

Their works are all very different, but there is something they share. They make everyday life feel a little gentler.

Just little things that make an ordinary day feel a little better. And perhaps that is enough.
