What a strange, lovely stretch of weather for late October! 🌿 We still have malva blooming in the garden, and the canna lilies and geraniums are hanging on strong—it hardly feels like the end of the season.

But warm days don’t mean new plantings can be forgotten. Check the soil a couple of inches down before watering: if it’s still moist, hold off; if it’s dry, give the plant a slow, thorough drink. Cooler nights and fall rain can change how quickly a garden dries out, so let the soil—not the calendar—guide you.

A little extra attention now helps new plants settle in before winter, while the established garden enjoys these bonus days of colour. 🍂🌱

Good morning, Smiths Falls! 🥶🍂

A crisp, frosty start out there today. The kind of morning that makes you appreciate a warm coffee, a cozy sweater, and the last little bits of colour hanging on in the garden.

The growing season is settling in for a rest, and so are we—soon. Until then, we’re enjoying these bright fall mornings and wrapping up the final garden chores of the year.

Stay warm out there, friends! 🌿

A closer look at this Palmerston Lake slope project 🌱
We planted perennials along the top of the embankment, with the hope that their roots and tubers will help secure the soil as they establish. The jute erosion-control blanket is nestled around the plants to help protect the exposed ground while they grow in.

Here’s a look at the slope before and after installation—a thoughtful mix of planting and erosion-control work on a challenging site.

A project we’ve been slowly picking away at all summer is finally finished for this season! 🌿

For the final touch, we removed a 20-inch wide strip of grass between the garden bed and the flagstone. Diamond Dust Landscaping & Design then came in to lift and relay the stone, giving it a beautiful refresh. We finished by adding fresh black mulch around the mature Diablo ninebarks, tying the garden and flagstone together.

A big thank-you to Diamond Dust for the lovely stonework. We’re so happy with how it all came together! 🖤

Good morning to our Northern family!

Somewhere between closing down gardens for the season and booking new clients for the next one, it hit me just how much these past few months have meant. 🌿

When I branched out on my own, I knew it would be a big step. I didn’t know how quickly Northern Edge Landscapes would grow, how much I’d learn, or how many wonderful people would support us along the way. Now, as we start winding down our first season, I’m feeling pretty sentimental about it all.

To every client who trusted us with your gardens and every person who followed along, shared a post, recommended us, or encouraged us: thank you. You helped make this first season something special, and I’m so grateful you’ve been part of it.

And I have to give Kianna a massive shout-out. She has worked incredibly hard this season, and I’m so proud of the growth she’s shown—not only as a hardworking, capable member of the crew, but on a personal level too. Watching her confidence and skills grow has been one of the best parts of this journey. I’m so lucky to have her beside me.

We still have gardens to tuck in and new plans taking shape, but already I’m looking back on this first season with a full heart. Thank you for helping Northern Edge Landscapes get off to such a wonderful start. 💚

Love ALWAYS,
Sarah ✌🏼

A busy day in Ompah, just off Palmerston Lake! 🌿

Kianna and I got the topsoil graded out before lunch, and now we’re ready to spread some grass seed before turning our attention to the embankment we are dressing.

One step at a time, we’re helping this lakeside property get a little more stable and a lot more ready to grow. 💪🌱

A little Thanksgiving weekend sweetness came our way! 🧡

One of our recent clients’ granddaughters surprised us with a box of homemade cinnamon rolls, and they were absolutely delicious. Such a thoughtful treat made our weekend extra special.

A BIG thank-you to her and a shout-out to My Three Chicks Bake Stand for the yummy cinnamon rolls! Be sure to check them out if you’re in the mood for something homemade and delicious. 🐥🍥

A little family time at the hunt camp… and a little Porch & Pine brainstorming tucked in between. 🌲

I’ve been playing with some new design ideas, gathering inspiration from the woods and seeing what feels right. There’s something special about creating with the colours, textures, and character of the season.

Just a few experiments for now—but I have a feeling this winter’s porches are going to have a little extra woodland magic. ✨
