The older I get, the more amazed I am at how nature provides for us exactly when we need it, if we are open to it. Two examples of this from this week: eucalyptus and apples.
Why eucalyptus and apples? Read on:
Apples are at their tastiest and freshest right when school lunches start. Unlike berries and Stone fruit, an apple is hardy enough to travel back-and-forth in the school lunch bag for most of the week, waiting and sweetening until such time as the student may decide they are hungry enough to eat said apple. If you tell me this has never happened to you, I will think you have probably just blocked it, and understandably so, as part of a desire to block what a gong show it is to pack school lunches, that will be eaten, in this economy, in the year of our lady 2026.
And eucalyptus. Arguably one of the best things the Aussies have gifted the world ;yes, even more than the Tim Tam Slam), all the more so because it really does grow quite well in our climate, although we do find that it does not appreciate being cut until right about now. And what does that have to do with nature’s wisdom? Well, the beautiful smells of eucalyptus, whether in a vase on your table or hanging upside down in your shower, helps to open the airwaves when your Darling students inevitably bring home a cold somewhere between the first and third week of school every. Single. Year.
See, wisdom to go along with your bruised fruit and stuffed nose. Happy last week of September!
And yes, we have both in the Farm Store right now 😉
