Homebuilders Association Vancouver - HAVAN

Built in 1908. Now net-zero. 🏡🌱

Last Friday, October 23, HAVAN joined Deep Green Developments for a site tour of their “1908 to Net Zero” project, a heritage reconstruction that transformed a Vancouver character home into a high-performance, three-dwelling net-zero build.

Thank you to our three speakers:
✨ Barb Silverthorn, Capture Energy
✨ Peter Smith, Smithcraft Architecture
✨ Todd Best, Best Builders

Thank you as well to everyone who attended! It’s not every day you see a century-old home overhauled in a way that honours its heritage while dramatically improving its environmental impact.

The Oak Atelier is a kitchen defined by restraint, craftsmanship, and long term livability. Natural oak cabinetry establishes warmth and rhythm throughout the space, detailed with a subtle one-inch rail profile that adds depth without visual weight. A sculptural Venetian plaster hood fan anchors the cooking zone, introducing texture and softness while concealing high-performance ventilation.

Leather-finish quartzite countertops provide a durable, tactile surface with a low sheen that complements the oak and reinforces the kitchen’s calm material palette. Miele appliances are seamlessly integrated into the millwork for reliable performance and a refined, understated presence. An appliance garage supports everyday functionality by keeping work surfaces clear and organized.

Thoughtful proportions, clean sight lines, and careful material transitions allow the kitchen to connect naturally to adjacent living spaces, creating a composed environment where functionality and quiet design excellence work in balance.
