We had our Pro-Mix delivered, and what should have been a pretty ordinary job ended up being one of those conversations that sticks with you.
While we were unloading the pallets, our driver told us that he grew up on a vegetable farm in India.
He said he always enjoys delivering to farms more than the big box stores because farmers are welcoming and caring. Being on a farm feels a little bit like home.
After we finished unloading, he stayed and ate his lunch here in the yard.
I kept thinking about what he had said.
His family farm in India and our farm here in Alberta would probably look very different, but apparently some things about farm life are pretty universal.
The work.
Growing food and plants.
Welcoming people into the yard.
And maybe that feeling that there’s always room for one more person.
I loved that.
There’s another story in this photo too.
To most people, these are just pallets of Pro-Mix.
To us, they’re the beginning of next spring.
Over the coming months, that mix will fill thousands of pots and hanging baskets and grow plants that eventually leave our greenhouse for gardens throughout our community.
Spring at a greenhouse starts long before spring actually arrives.
So this was a delivery of growing mix, but it was also a lovely reminder that farming connects people in ways you don’t always expect. ❤️
Have you ever had a simple conversation with someone that stayed with you long after?
