Naniwa.

Some things at the shop are easy to explain.

Sharpening stones are not one of them.

Naniwa has been making stones in Japan for a very long time, and their range is deep enough to keep you occupied for years. Different abrasives, different binders, different grits, different feedback. Some cut fast. Some feel soft. Some are made for refinement. Some just make you want to sharpen another knife.

The more you learn, the more particular you become.

And then, naturally, you end up with a shelf full of stones.

Not that we’re complaining.

The Shopkeeper.

Not much of a backstory, really.

I started KNIFE because I liked knives. Then coffee happened. Then cookware, ceramics, tools, and a thousand other rabbit holes.
Incense?

Somewhere along the way, the shop became a collection of things I genuinely wanted to know more about, and a place to share them with people who are equally curious.

I still do most of the same things I did at the beginning. Talk too much about objects. Meet interesting people. Move boxes around. Make coffee. Learn something new. Occasionally get something very, very wrong.

No grand master plan. Just a long-running obsession that somehow became a shop.

Anyway, that's the idea.

Beautiful fu***ng spoons.

And bowls, trays, and other wooden things made by hand in Japan by Ishi Koji.

Simple objects, beautifully considered. Each piece has its own grain, shape, texture and little imperfections that remind you someone actually made it.

We’ve got a soft spot for things like this. Objects you use every day that somehow make the everyday feel a little better.

Knife of the Month: Makoto Tadakoro Gyuto

A knife we’ve been looking forward to putting in the spotlight.



Makoto Tadakoro is known for beautifully balanced blades with a quiet, understated character. This gyuto is a great example: clean geometry, excellent cutting feel, and the kind of thin edge that rewards good technique.
Big ass.handle.jist feels.great.

Not flashy. Just very, very good.

One of those knives that makes you want to cook a little more.

Silky Scissors.

One of the first things we brought into Canada, and still one of the staples.

Thousands sold over the years. A simple pair of scissors that somehow ends up becoming the pair you reach for every time.

We’ve been carrying them for a long time. Still wouldn’t be without them.

Gina by Goat Story.

A beautiful little piece of coffee equipment that does a lot more than it looks like it should.

Pour over, immersion, cold brew, even a built-in scale. Thoughtful design, simple mechanics, and a lot of room to play.

One of those pieces that makes you want to slow down and make another coffee.

Proud to have them here in our shop.

A little about why KNIFE and Blacksmith Cycle share the same space.

Two businesses, one room, built around the same idea: good tools, good objects, and the people who care about using them.

A well-made knife, a well-made bicycle. Both are designed to be used, maintained, understood, and lived with.

Different crafts, different communities, but a shared appreciation for things made properly.

And, if we’re being completely honest, I mostly wanted an excuse to spend more time with Mike.

Some things in the kitchen become essential before you even realize it.

Our Yakumi Pans are one of those things. Small, beautifully made, and endlessly useful. Once you have one, it’s hard to imagine cooking without it.

We were the first to bring Yakumi Pans into Canada, and they’ve been a KNIFE staple ever since.

One of those quiet pieces of cookware that just earns its place.
