PARTISANS

PARTISANS Don't hire us. Join us. PARTISANS is a movement. We tell stories. But not just any stories. Beauty emerges when design misbehaves. We listen. We transmute.

We are architects, thinkers, and cultural enthusiasts devoted to a cause: smart, beautiful, and provocative design. We build architectural narratives that elicit counternarratives—stories that spring to life through spontaneous mutations and unexpected cracks. We are idealistic enough to believe in the political and poetical power of architecture. We also know that the best work emerges when you join forces with the best makers, doers, and clients—in other words, fellow partisans. We shoot for the sublime. PARTISANS is participatory. Our intentions are earnest, our enthusiasm, unblinking. Don’t hire us.

We’re very pleased to share that Muskoka Island Spa has received a 2026 Best of Canada Design Award from .

The project reimagines a former ice-storage hut as a compact thermal retreat, drawing its material language directly from the island. Canadian Shield granite moves through the interior as flooring, thresholds, basins and carved surfaces, set against the warmth of custom-milled cedar and the retained structure of the original hut.

We’re grateful to Canadian Interiors for the recognition and pleased to see the project included amongst this year’s cohort of winners.

has been named No. 8 on North America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Designed by following our work on , Quetzal is organized around open fire as both culinary engine and spatial anchor. The long galley kitchen draws diners into close proximity with preparation, smoke, movement, and exchange, turning the act of cooking into the room’s central condition.

Overhead, a low, undulating ceiling gathers the space into a luminous canopy, concealing infrastructure while softening the intensity below. The result is intimate and elemental - restaurant shaped by the sublime charge of fire.

PARTISANS is proud to announce that we have been selected to design the Construction Workers’ Memorial at Queen’s Park in Toronto.

“We inherit our cities as finished objects, but beneath every tower, bridge, tunnel, and road is the memory of workers who risked — and sometimes gave — their lives to build them.”

In the feature on the Ontario Building Workers’ Memorial, PARTISANS co-founder reflects on a forthcoming civic memorial at Queen’s Park honouring construction workers whose lives have been lost or forever changed through work-related causes.

First unveiled by the and on the National Day of Mourning, the memorial carries forward a shared commitment voiced by Premier and Labour Minister : to recognize the workers who have built this province, and to keep worker safety at the centre of public life.

Designed by in collaboration with , , and , the memorial gathers individually inscribed metal plaques into a raised, self-supporting structure. Each year, on April 28, new names will be added, allowing the memorial to grow as a living record of remembrance.

At its public unveiling, that commitment was echoed across civic, labour, and construction communities — from and the to , , , , and — alongside the families and communities whose lives are carried in this work.

Primrose Hill has been shortlisted for the Architizer A+Awards . This nomination speaks to our ambitions in humanizing purpose-built rental housing and rethinking urban densification in Toronto.

Located in Moss Park, the project resuscitates an existing 1970s apartment complex by introducing two new towers that actively invert traditional high-rise massing. In stacking shifting volumes that grow larger as they rise, the architecture maximizes open space at grade for community use. A suspended skybridge physically connects the structures at the seventeenth floor, reimagining residential amenity design as a spatial vehicle for inclusion. At the base, precast arches pay homage the site’s Brutalist heritage.

To challenge the staid development landscape of the downtown core, we collaborated with London-based artist and designer Adam Nathaniel Furman on the building facade. Furman’s work gives colour civic weight, using its polychromous force to shape public experience, build identity, and give architecture a more vivid presence in the city. At Primrose Hill, this thinking informed a palette of rich gradients and bold transitions — softening the scale of the cantilevered massing and bringing warmth and optimism to the skyline.

Public voting is open until May 15. Support Primrose Hill through the link in our bio.

This Tuesday, join us for Rise and Sprawl: The Condominiumization of Toronto — a conversation unpacking the rapid verticalization of the city, and the roles developers, architecture, marketing, and policy play in defining it.

With Alexander Josephson and Hans Ibelings, we’ll question the status quo and explore more imaginative alternatives for how our city could grow.
