Reflect Architecture

Reflect Architecture Progressive architecture inspired by unique clients. At Reflect Architecture, our work begins with purpose: to create architecture that inspires.

This place of inspiration is unique to each client and drives each design choice. Located through a process of discovery and conversation, we work with clients to produce experiential spaces that embody the unique values that motivate them. Committed to progressive thinking that honours integrity of the environment and those who inhabit it, our work looks to reflect the possibilities of architecture. Every project is a consideration of its people, its place. Centring our work in the today, we utilize relevant, contemporary materials and techniques to realize our clients’ diverse perspectives. Accounting for the intersecting conditions of a place–ecology, cultures, community–we work to design responsive spaces. Committed to honest materials, communications, and principles–we produce architecture that speaks to the way we live today and imagines tomorrow.

From the street, Euclid presents as a restrained urban volume, concealing much of the life within. A planted screen and narrow opening mark the entrance by day; after dark, light filtering through the façade begins to reveal the spaces beyond.

The intimacy of Cabbagetown’s Victorian plan was something to keep, not overcome. The traditional sequence from foyer to living room, dining room and kitchen remains, with long views connecting spaces rather than collapsing them into one. Original details are celebrated and juxtaposed with modern and contemporary furniture.

The primary suite at Cabbagetown gives significant space and exposure to parts of domestic life usually treated as secondary. The ensuite occupies the east- and south-facing corner, where curved glazing brings in morning light and opens views to the treetops and skyline. Warm grey travertine gives the space a monolithic quality, continuing into a skylit shower with an onsen-like sitting area.

Cabbagetown takes two different approaches to old and new. At the street, the front door is rebuilt and new arched windows are reinstated to follow the original Victorian brick lintels. At the rear, the existing two-storey extension is retained and reclad in a material that takes its proportions and colour from the board-and-batten additions found across neighbouring houses. Above, a new third storey is expressed as a curved ribbon of glass, its light and reflective quality reducing the visual weight of the expanded house.

At Retreat, the living spaces are defined as much by atmosphere as they are by material. A palette of oak, stone, and plaster provides a quiet backdrop for art, furniture, and the ever-changing exterior landscape, allowing subtle shifts in light and season to shape the experience of the home.

Material and detail are approached with precision at every scale, where a simple pairing of cork and machined metal highlights the contrast between texture and refinement. At 40PH, these small moments reinforce a broader focus on craft and control.

At 40PH, a continuous granite plinth surrounds the interior, extending toward the terraces. In the bedroom, it projects into the space in a single gesture, forming the foundation for the bathroom, which features a glass shower enclosure and an encapsulated bathtub beyond. Wrapped in glass and filtered through soft drapery, the room is experienced as a calm, unified composition.

40PH was conceived as an urban retreat shaped by both creative expression and technical precision. Informed by references from culture, technology, and form, the interior brings together material, detail, and craftsmanship.
