🌿if you’ve never owned a plant before, start here.

they’re a great first plant because they tolerate low light, forgive forgotten waterings, and genuinely hard to unalive.

bonus: you can propagate it just by cutting a vine and putting it in a jar of water. no soil, no tools. once roots form, pot it up and you’ve basically got a second plant for free.

if you’ve been too nervous to start your houseplant journey, this is your sign.

Here are some plants that look boujee but are secretly chill 🌿

Hoyas, Bird of Paradise, velvety Anthuriums (like Crystallinum, Luxurians Platinum, Regale), and Rubber Plants all bring luxury vibes without the stress.
Once your light and watering routine are steady, these can be some of the most rewarding plants to grow 👀💚

a bag full of new plants to take home sounds pretty good✨🪴🤗🪴✨

🪴this is the plant people buy specifically because they’re bad at plants.

ZZ plants store water in thick, potato-like rhizomes underground, so when you “forget” to water it, it’s not struggling, it’s just living off its own reserves.

it also evolved on forest floors in eastern africa, in the shade of taller plants, so low light isn’t a problem either.

if you’ve unalived every other plant you’ve owned, this is the one that might just thrive.

pilea check in: one month in and she’s thriving🌿

bottom water: every 7–10 days. window light. the cat has made a couple of attempts on its life… 🐱

those tiny little pups are going to be their own plants soon and isn’t that so fun??

bright room doesn’t necessarily mean bright light. and this one thing explains a lot of struggling plants🌿

two plants in the same room can have completely different experiences depending on how close they are to the window (and to the sunlight). one is going to have enough energy to grow and thrive. the other might be quietly running low, growing slower, stretching toward light it can’t quite reach, producing smaller leaves.

this is important because light is how your plant makes energy. so less light means less of everything! slower growth, slower recovery, less ability to fight off stress.

so if something feels off, don’t just ask “is this a bright enough room?” ask “how much light is actually reaching my plant?”

sometimes two feet closer to the window changes everything🌞🌱

we blinked and it was over🌿

2026 in less than 15 seconds. plants arriving, new ones going home, and a whole lot of good energy in between.

thank you to every single person who came out, swapped, and made this one of our favourite days of the year.

can’t wait to see you next year💚

if you’ve been meaning to repot a plant all summer... do it now 🌿

fall in Toronto is basically a two week heads up before winter arrives. and once the days get shorter, the light gets weaker — which is exactly what your plant needs to recover from the stress of being repotted.

even moving into a slightly bigger pot disturbs roots. some get damaged in the process. and healing from that takes energy. in summer, there’s plenty of light to fuel that recovery. right now, that window is closing.

if you’re growing under grow lights, you’ve got a bit more flexibility — same light year round, no problem. but if you’re relying on natural light through the windows, sooner is always better.

can you repot in winter? yes. will it be harder on your plant? also yes.

so if there’s a repot you’ve been putting off, you should do it pretty soon. use the light while you still have it. 🌱
