Zero experience. That’s what I had to offer this 130 year old house at the mouth of the Atlantic.

But passion, a willingness and drive to learn, unwavering commitment, and energy- so much energy!

While I’ve never taken a course or read a book on home renovation, I’m learning as I go and will continue to do so. I’m not perfect but I work hard.

Before tearing up this room I never noticed evidence of a chimney once existing inside! I could tell that there was a wall dividing the space into two rooms, but that’s it. I found old bricks in the ceiling, and finally noticed a patch on the floorboards that lined up with bracing for a chimney in the ceiling lath.

Under this room is the kitchen, so I suspect the chimney led to a cook stove. Someone, I suspect in the 70s, had added some drywall to parts of the wall and ceiling but never finished it.

Was this room used as a nursery? Did it have a wood stove in it, too? I wish I knew!

Mindfulness: this is how I operate while fixing up my home. No music, no outside influence, just me and the house. These are the sounds.

My dear friend stopped by last October to lend a helping hand and learn how to insulate!

Sometimes I worry about working alongside someone, especially in tight quarters and always being alone, but working with her felt like a dance we’ve been dancing together for years. Patient and supportive, curiosity and wonderment, and we just flowed together. ❤️

And it was so much easier to have someone there to pass things, to have her kick things out of the way, and always a sincere to share experience and experiences.

Happy International Women’s Day!
Not surprisingly, this is where and how I feel like the most powerful woman I’ve ever been. The most confident, the most secure, the best version of myself. Welcoming all challenges, the unknown, the lessons waiting to be learned.

However you show up for yourself, wherever you feel the most powerful, I applaud you!
