Not all carpet is created equal, and there’s a lot more to consider than just colour and softness.
A few things worth knowing before making your selections:
FACE WEIGHT: This measures how much fiber is used per square yard of carpet. Around 40–45 oz is a reasonable starting point for bedrooms, but don’t rely on this number alone. Fiber type and density are equally important.
FIBER TYPE: Wool is a beautiful, naturally resilient option if your budget allows. Nylon and triexta are also excellent choices for busy households, offering durability and everyday practicality. Polyester can be a more affordable alternative, although some varieties are more susceptible to matting.
PILE HEIGHT: A shorter, denser pile is generally better suited to high-traffic areas and stairs, while bedrooms can accommodate something softer and more plush.
UNDERLAY: What’s underneath your carpet is just as important as what’s on top. The right underlay provides support, improves comfort, and helps protect your investment. Thicker isn’t always better, so make sure it’s appropriate for the carpet you’ve selected.
PATTERN & TEXTURE: A subtle pattern or textured finish can help conceal everyday wear, footprints, and vacuum marks while adding a little more interest to a space.
Our advice? Don’t make your decision based on a small carpet sample alone. Ask about the construction, compare specifications, and consider how each space in your home will actually be used.
The details matter, especially the ones you don’t immediately see.
