The worst part wasn't the mess. It was the three weeks nobody came, and nobody would tell you why.

The crew was there, making progress, and then one day they weren't. A week passed. Then two. Your half finished house just sat there, kitchen unusable, kids stepping over tools, and every call you made got a vague answer or no answer at all. You never found out if they were coming back or if you'd been quietly abandoned.

That silence is what happens when a contractor overbooks. Your job gets paused the moment a bigger one calls, and nobody tells you, because telling you would mean admitting you've been deprioritized.

We don't disappear, because we don't overbook. We limit how many projects we run at once so yours gets finished, not parked. You get a schedule, weekly updates without chasing, and a straight answer any time something shifts. If there's ever a delay, you hear the reason from us before you notice the silence.

A family shouldn't have to wonder if their own renovation has been abandoned.

If a past project left you stranded, here's how to make sure it never happens again. Book a free consultation and ask us directly how many jobs we run at once and how our schedule protects yours. Call us at 519.448.3946 or start at https://www.frontierbuildinggroup.com/. We actually pick up.

A family in Brantford bought a container home from another vendor to house the mother. They had a move date. They had the unit. Then they applied for a permit and the city said no.

That is one of three real ADU problems Frontier Building Group solved in Brantford and Norfolk County. The full stories are now in a new blog post.

Problem 1: The container home the family had already purchased was not approvable on their property. Frontier designed a custom 12-by-20-foot backyard ADU from scratch, moved the family's existing shed with a crane to clear the best spot on the lot, and finished the build in three months in time for the summer move.

Problem 2: What looked like a straightforward garage conversion in Brantford revealed carpenter-ant rot, decay, and squirrel nests throughout the structure once demolition started. Parts of the garage were no longer in good enough condition to become the structure of a legal home. Professional extermination came first. Then a full structural rebuild before the conversion could proceed.

Problem 3: On a small Norfolk County lot, the septic system had to be solved before anything else could be designed with confidence. Until the septic placement was settled, the structure and services could not be finalized. A small-lot septic design came first. Everything else was built around it.

In every case, the original plan changed. In every case, the family got the home they needed.

The blog covers what happened on each project, the real costs and timelines, and what to check on your own property before you commit to any ADU plan.

At Thanksgiving, the house gets used exactly the way it should!

The kitchen gets crowded.
Every seat gets claimed.
Someone needs more counter space.
Kids are everywhere.
And somehow, everyone ends up in the same room anyway.

That’s home.

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the families who trust us with the spaces where real life happens, and for the talented people who help us bring those spaces to life.

Here’s to full tables, busy homes, and people worth making room for.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🧡

She had already worked with Frontier Building Group before this project. Phase 1 was the basement. This is Phase 2.

"I didn't really have any hesitations. Because I've used Frontier before for a different project. They did great work then and that's why I wanted to work with them again."

That is the most honest endorsement a contractor can earn. Not a five-star review from a stranger. A returning client who already knew what to expect and chose to come back.

The goal of this renovation at Old Mill St in Paris was to bring the family together into one location — aging parents on the lower level, the client upstairs — so everyone could be close while maintaining their own space. The upper level was renovated with new flooring, updated finishes, and custom built-in cabinetry. A timber-frame addition created a new powder room. Outside, a covered PVC deck with a timber-frame roof extended the outdoor season, and new interlocking stone refreshed the pool area.

She had done her research before Phase 1. The women-led company was a draw.

"You hear so many horror stories about people hiring contractors, paying them all kinds of money and then they just disappear. You work too hard for your money to throw it away to people who don't really care."

Phase 2 was easier because she had already been through the process once. She knew what questions to ask. She knew what to watch for. She still looked forward to her 7:30am BuilderTrend update every morning — passing it along to her mom so the household was ready for the day.

She calls herself a seer. She needs to see things before she commits. Frontier measured it out, drew it out, put paint on the grass so she could visualize it in the actual space.

They incorporated her dad's original wood into the cedar closet downstairs. They kept her mom's stained glass upstairs.

"They're like family. They've been here for two years."

You leave for the day. Your pet doesn't. They breathe the renovation dust for eight hours while you're at work, in a house nobody sealed off.

Most contractors treat dust as your problem to clean up later. No containment, no sealed zones, no plan for air. So the drywall dust, the sawdust, the debris drifts into every room, settles on every surface, and fills the air of the one place your animal can't leave. You come home to a fine grey film on the water bowl and a pet who's been inhaling it all day.

That mess isn't just annoying. It's a sign nobody planned how to build inside a home that's still being lived in.

We contain the work before demolition starts. Sealed zones, dust barriers, and protected pathways so the construction stays where the construction is, and the rest of your home stays livable for the family and the animals in it. Cleanup isn't a favour we do at the end. Containment is built into how we start.

A clean, sealed job site isn't a luxury. It's proof somebody thought about who actually lives there.

Worried about the disruption more than the renovation itself? That's the exact conversation to have first. Book a free consultation and we'll walk you through precisely how we contain the work and keep your home livable throughout. Most homeowners walk into a renovation conversation and refuse to share their budget.

Jonathan uses the best analogy in EP07 of BuildCast to explain why that is the most expensive mistake they can make. When you walk into a Mercedes dealership you have already told them everything they need to know about your budget. When you walk into a Honda dealership, same thing. The dealership knows where to start because you chose the room you walked into.

With a contractor, there is no dealership to walk into. There is no sticker price, no showroom floor, no model to point at. Without a budget conversation, a contractor has absolutely no frame of reference for what you are thinking, what the end product should look like, or whether what you want is even possible for what you are willing to spend.

But here is what Jonathan and Chris say is even more important than the budget number. Tell them the actual problem you are trying to solve. Not the renovation you think you want. The problem underneath it. Because once a contractor understands the real problem, they can give you creative solutions you probably never thought of. Solutions that might cost less, work better, or get you to the same outcome a completely different way.

The budget tells them the limit. The problem tells them the goal. They need both.

This is a clip from EP07 of BuildCast, our podcast where Jonathan and Chris have the conversations the construction industry does not want you to hear. EP07 is live right now on YouTube and everywhere you listen to your podcasts.

Most Ontario homeowners planning a whole-home renovation have no idea this rebate exists. And the window to qualify is closing.

If your renovation goes deep enough (most of the interior gutted, kitchens and bathrooms rebuilt, plumbing and wiring rerouted, walls moved) it may qualify as a "substantial renovation" under the CRA. And if it qualifies, you may be able to recover a significant portion of the HST you paid on construction.

In 2026, Ontario introduced an enhanced rebate program on top of the existing one. Combined, a qualifying renovation on a home worth under $1.85 million can now reach up to $130,000 in HST relief. Provincial and federal portions, two separate payments, one claim.

But the window is firm. The work has to start between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027. If your renovation has been sitting on the back burner, that timeline matters.

Frontier Building Group just published a full guide. It covers what the CRA's 90% substantial renovation test actually means in plain terms, how to know whether your scope qualifies before demolition starts, what documents you need to keep from day one, and how Frontier scopes and manages rebate-ready renovations.

This is not a rebate most contractors talk about. It should be part of every whole-home renovation conversation happening right now.

Six people. One bathroom. Until Frontier Building Group finished the basement at Mardon Ave in Port Dover.

He describes the renovation in two halves and both matter.

The first half is communication. Daily emails. Phone calls. Text messages from Sean the project manager whenever anything came up. A project that never went quiet.

The second half is what all of that communication produced.

"The fact that we have two bathrooms is huge with six of us living here. And to have enough space for everybody to be able to do their own thing, and then enough space for us all to come together as well."

That last sentence is the whole point of the project. Not square footage. Not rooms. The ability for a blended family of six to live comfortably under one roof — separately when they need to be, and together when they want to be.

If your home cannot do that for the family inside it, that is exactly the conversation to start.

Can I build a second home in my backyard?

We hear that question almost every week, usually from someone who has been quietly wondering for years and never knew who to ask.

Maybe it's a parent who can't live alone much longer. An adult kid who can't afford to move out. A mortgage that would feel a lot lighter with rent coming in. Or a family that needs more room and doesn't want to leave the street they love.

Here's what stops most people: they don't know if their lot even qualifies. Zoning, setbacks, servicing, septic, permits. So they call a contractor who says "sure" and hands them a price. Then the drawings get rejected, or the ground tells a different story, and the money is already spent.

That's why we never start with a price. We start with your property.

We've told a homeowner their container home could not be permitted before they spent another dollar on it. We've found serious structural problems in a garage before it became someone's living room. We've designed an entire rural suite around what the septic system could handle.

Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it's yes, if. Sometimes it's "not that way, here's the way that works." Either way, you get the real answer before you commit.

YES, YOU CAN. And here's how.

Find out what's possible on your property before you spend a dollar on drawings. Call us at 519.448.3946 or start at frontierbuildinggroup.com. We actually pick up.
