A century-old building, reimagined for modern living.

Completed three years ago in Basel, this renovation brings together historic character and contemporary interior design. Bespoke elements designed by GRUNER&FRIENDS and crafted by a local carpenter—from the 6-meter kitchen to the 4-meter dining table—give the spaces their unique identity.

WE ARE HIRING!

Join our team in the heart of Basel. We’re looking for talented and motivated individuals who are passionate about architecture, design, and creating meaningful projects together.

Today is the day. The 9th anniversary of GRUNER&FRIENDS.

All started 9 years ago with an idea. Today it’s 25 people in Basel, collaborators across the world, hundreds of projects, and a Creative Lab that keeps pushing into new territory.

None of it would exist without the people who built it together with founder, CEO and Creative Director Patrice Gruner . The team, past and present, who showed up every day and made the work real. The clients who trusted us with their spaces, their visions, their stories. The collaborators who brought skills and perspectives we didn’t have.

GRUNER&FRIENDS is a statement about how architecture should work. Collectively. Honestly. With care for context and commitment to concept.

This is just the beginning.

Thank you!

A journey shaped by vision, collaboration, inspiring projects, meaningful conversations, and a constant exchange of ideas, along with challenges that pushed us to grow and evolve.

To reflect the diversity of our work, we selected a series of projects — one for each year — offering a glimpse into our journey. From early concepts to complex realizations, each project marks a step along the way.

DREIROSENBRÜCKE - upgrading the bridge in the local newspaper.

GRUNER&FRIENDS, together with politician Michael Hug and Gruner engineers, wants to make green and upgrade the Dreirosenbrücke with a wooden pergola to prevent the entire area from becoming a heat island in the city. This should be seen as part of an overall concept, with the green upgrading and connection of all bridges and banks in the heart of Basel.

In addition, a new, horizontal symbol for Basel is to be created.
The connection from the Novartis Campus to Klybeck will be improved and the open space on the bridge will serve as a replacement for the loss of the Dreirosenanlage during the construction of the Rhine tunnel.

The bridge’s upper deck is re-surfaced with vegetations and softer paving adapted to each user’s paths. Islands in between the paths host meeting points, green zones, food trucks, sport & workout areas and others, spread along the bridge and working as cultural clusters. A lightweight timber pergola covers the bridge to reduce the solar incidence on the floor and to welcome and protect users. It is to also help reduce noise emissions from cars and trams passing over the bridge, while PV panels provide energy for neighboring buildings.

GRUNER&FRIENDS celebrates its 7th birthday!

We are delighted with our short but intense history and the interesting projects we have been able to develop during this time. We owe this to our clients, network and teams who have trusted us and given us a chance.

We have been able to work on around 100 projects and realize several major projects. We are extremely proud of having completed the largest data center in Switzerland, built the KPMG headquarters and currently planning a 5-star hotel in Zurich.

We continue to grow, give our best every day and believe in our vision to positively change the world with our concepts and architecture. GRUNER&FRIENDS is increasingly becoming a brand.
