What goes into a proper AC deep clean?

The process shown here includes an initial hot-water rinse, application of a cleaning disinfectant, steam cleaning, and a final rinse to remove loosened dirt and residue.

Each stage has a purpose, and the method needs to be appropriate for the components being cleaned.

Regular cleaning and maintenance help keep your air conditioning system in good condition. If yours is due for a service, get in touch with ACRS.

What should you expect from a professional AC service?

It's not just about cleaning the filters.

A proper service involves cleaning the relevant components, checking the system's condition and drainage, inspecting electrical connections where appropriate, and checking that the unit is operating correctly.

The work required will depend on the system, its condition and how it has been used.

If your air conditioner hasn't been serviced in a while, contact ACRS to arrange a visit.

💧 HVAC FUN FACTS — PART 3

That water dripping from your AC drain pipe?

It started as moisture in the air inside your home.

As warm, humid air passes over the cold indoor coil, moisture condenses into water droplets. Those droplets collect and are carried away through the condensate drain.

So your AC isn't just cooling the room, it's also removing moisture from the air.

There’s a lot more happening inside an AC than most people realise.

Before & after of a recent replacement project.

The existing outdoor units had been sitting directly on the ground and were heavily rusted and corroded. The power supply cabling had also deteriorated from prolonged exposure to the weather.

We removed the old units, installed 2 × 9,000 BTU and 1 × 18,000 BTU Gree Pular Series systems, and mounted the outdoor units on brackets to keep them raised from the ground.

The weathered power supply cabling was also replaced as part of the installation.

Proper positioning, suitable equipment and checking the condition of the existing installation are all part of doing the job correctly.

❄️ HVAC FUN FACTS — PART 2

Your AC can actually heat your home while temporarily sending heat back outside.

When a heat-pump system is heating, frost can build up on the outdoor coil. When that happens, the system can briefly reverse the refrigerant flow and send heat to the outdoor coil to clear the frost.

Once the coil is clear, it switches back to heating normally.

It’s a small part of the process that most people never see, but it’s happening automatically inside the system.

Your AC doesn't always give you a warning before something goes wrong.

Reduced airflow, unusual noises, poor cooling or water drainage can all be signs that something needs attention, but sometimes there are no obvious signs at all.

Regular servicing gives you the opportunity to have the system checked, cleaned and maintained before a small issue turns into a bigger one.

With the hotter months behind us, it's a good time to make sure your air conditioning is ready for the season ahead, especially if you'll be relying on it for heating during the cooler months.

Professional servicing, proper checks and attention to the details that matter.

❄️ HVAC FUN FACTS — PART 1

Did you know your air conditioner can create frost on the outdoor unit even when the temperature outside is above 0°C?

When an air conditioner is running in heating mode, the outdoor coil can become colder than the surrounding air. If there’s enough moisture in the air, that moisture can freeze onto the coil.

The system then uses a defrost cycle to clear the frost and keep heating normally.

So if you ever see frost or even a little steam coming from the outdoor unit during heating, it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.

There’s a lot more happening inside your AC than you might think.

12,000 BTU or 18,000 BTU? It's not simply a matter of choosing the bigger unit.

The correct capacity depends on the space being cooled, its size, layout, insulation, exposure to the sun and other factors that affect the cooling load.

That's why a professional installation starts with understanding the property and its requirements — not simply recommending the same unit for every room.

These two Gree systems were selected and installed according to the needs of the individual spaces.

The unit matters. The installation matters. But getting the right system for the space comes first.
