Architecture extends beyond the building itself. It shapes movement, orientation and the ways we perceive, experience and inhabit space.

In this expanded field, dialogue with art becomes particularly relevant. Art can shift our experience of space and become part of how a place is perceived, inhabited and remembered.

Explore our reflections on the changing relationship between art and architecture and how this dialogue takes shape in our work.

“The vision for the project is to create dynamic and fluid new spaces for business, entertainment, and public gathering. By using a palette of natural materials such as blond stone, raw concrete, wood, and different tones of 'denim' blue, the design concept bridges the historic context of Nîmes with the present.”
- 3XN Senior Partner Jan Ammundsen

Located in the historic heart of Nîmes, the new Palais des Congrès brings together conference, exhibition, and public spaces within a compact urban site. Its sculpted, undulating façades respond to the surrounding heritage while creating a contemporary civic landmark rooted in the city’s architectural identity.

3XN turns 40!

This year marks 40 years since 3XN was founded. To celebrate, we brought together colleagues from around the world at our Copenhagen office at the beginning of September.

Over the course of three amazing days, we explored 3XN’s history, got to know one another better through activities at Ungdomsøen, shared knowledge and experiences through inspiring talks and workshops, and took part in tours around the city.

The celebrations culminated in a great party at Refshaleøen, where we were joined by former 3XN and GXN colleagues to mark this special milestone together.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate 40 years of 3XN!

Here’s to the next 40 years!

Since opening in July 2026, the Shenzhen Natural History Museum has welcomed around 200,000 visitors already.

Conceived as an extension of the surrounding landscape, the 100,000 m² museum brings architecture, science and civic life together in one continuous environment. Inspired by the shifting terrain of a river delta, five interconnected volumes rise from the ground to house the exhibition halls, while a publicly accessible roofscape extends the park across and over the building.

Located between the city and the wetlands of Yanzi Lake, the museum creates a new civic destination for Shenzhen, combining exhibition, education and research facilities with generous public spaces and a flexible central atrium.

🎥Watch the film below to see how the building sits within the landscape and how visitors engage with its architecture and exhibitions.

The new Shenzhen Natural History Museum takes its form from the delta, where water meets land and terrain is shaped over time. Inspired by the Pingshan River, the 100,000 m² building unfolds in branching curves and rising ground - not as an object placed in the park, but as terrain made civic.

Its cliff-like facades and publicly accessible roof garden extend the surrounding wetlands across the building. Open to all, the roofscape brings culture, ecology and everyday movement together, while the museum’s educational, research and community programmes keep it active beyond its exhibitions.

Inside, five interconnected cones house the principal galleries across three levels. Their sinuous geometries create an intuitive, non-linear journey, allowing visitors to explore freely. Without conventional rectangular rooms, each exhibition responds to the height, curvature and character of its volume, integrating media, scenography and authentic specimens into the architecture.

ATELIER BRÜCKNER with Silkroad Visual developed the 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩, 𝘌𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 and 𝘋𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘳 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴, while Museum Studio with E.B.T. Exhibition Space Design created the 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯, 𝘉𝘪𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 and 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴.

Across the museum, architecture and exhibition are conceived as inseparable - a continuous landscape of discovery between city and park.

JOIN US AT OUR CPH OFFICE THIS THURSDAY

We will be presenting our recent research Bevar Mere [Preserve More] followed by a short Q&A and drinks.

Are you in Copenhagen and interested in transformation and reuse? You might already be well-versed in the subject and want to understand practical tools and methods that can assess the transformation potential of existing office buildings.

Why is this important?
Denmark faces a growing housing shortage while thousands of square metres of office space sit vacant. Transforming existing commercial buildings into homes seems like an obvious solution, yet the path is far from straightforward.

What is it?
A research piece focused on practical methods, analyses and operational change that builds productive dialogue between developers and municipalities.

When? Thursday 24th September at 17:00
Where? 3XN GXN — Kanonbådsvej 8, 1437 Copenhagen K
The event is free and open to all.

Sign up for free via the link in our stories.

The report was produced in collaboration with DTU - Technical University of Denmark, the City of Aarhus , and supported by Realdania.
