My tamahagane honyaki, wedge takedown gyuto for Knifeshow Austria 🇦🇹
There’s a lot of human connection and sharing of techniques that went into making this project possible. For which I am deeply grateful 🙏
- From my time in Japan two years ago at Workshop Kurogane with 林 信哉 sensei and Jesse Cunningham teaching me how to make the tamahagane in this bl@de from beach sand magnetite.
- Rockchop Knife Co kindly sharing his techniques for etching honyaki, which truly has been a game changer!
- A generous customer gifting me the beautiful block of mulga that went into this handle.
- Simon Krichbaum - StorchenKlinge inspiring me with his wedge takedown construction (Respect to him for making them look so easy, they’re damn hard!)
- and Kaz Ichikawa -jewelry artist- for helping me when I was desperately struggling with the Hido patina on the handle inlays!
I guess you could say this project is in the same spirit as KSA of coming together as makers and sharing our love for the craft.
At least that’s my thoughts.
I can’t wait to show it to you all at KSA very soon!
And at last a few specs for the nerds 😉

-steel: tamahagane, abura honyaki
