When we say we want a calm, comfortable home, we can mean quite different things.
Some of us want fewer things asking for our attention. Others feel more at ease with a sense of privacy or with clear structure and everything in its place. I find these differences worth exploring before we start choosing furniture and finishes.
In my own approach to interiors, I’ve put these needs into four broad categories. I use them as a starting point to help people recognise what draws them in and what actually helps them feel comfortable.
That can change from one setting to another, too. What we need from the home we live and work in every day may be quite different from what we enjoy in a holiday apartment.
This carousel introduces Soft Flow: gentle transitions, softened edges, quiet surfaces and room to breathe. You can see it expressed through several interior styles, each with its own character.
I’m curious: Would this kind of space help you unwind? Or would you want a little more definition around you?
Next, I’ll explore Private Stillness.
