Every beautiful space begins with a story.

We wanted to take you behind the scenes and share the creative journey of how this room came to life — from the very first conversations and initial concepts to the thoughtful details that bring the finished design together.

For us, interior design is about so much more than choosing beautiful furniture, fabrics and finishes. It begins with listening.

Understanding our clients, their personalities, their history, the things they treasure and the way they want to live within their space. These conversations become the foundation of everything we create.

From there, we explore the layout, consider how the room should feel and function, and carefully develop a design language through colour, texture, materials and individual pieces. Every selection has a purpose, and every detail contributes to the wider story.

It’s a creative process of exploring ideas, refining choices and bringing different elements together until the space feels just right.

PART TWO — THE MANY FACES OF MODERN CLASSIC

Next in my interior styles series, we’re exploring four different interpretations of modern classic design.

From the refined elegance of Contemporary Classic to the understated sophistication of Modern Transitional, the character of Modern Traditional and the natural warmth of Organic European.

Each offers a different approach to creating a timeless interior, proving that classic design doesn’t have to mean traditional or old-fashioned.

Understanding these subtle differences is an important part of the design process. It’s not always easy to put your personal style into words, which is why visual references and moodboards are so valuable when establishing a direction.

Part Two – A Different Approach

One thing I’ve noticed since moving to the Costa del Sol is just how many developments look exactly the same.

The same kitchens, the same finishes, the same furniture, the same neutral colour palettes.

And don’t get me wrong, they’re clean, they’re simple, and they’re perfectly pleasant. But they’re also, dare I say it, a little bit lazy.

I understand why developers do it. They’re designing for mass appeal rather than individuality. But when you’re investing in a beautiful property, surely you want something that feels a little more special?

Luxury shouldn’t mean identikit design.

I love creating interiors with character, personality and unexpected details. Spaces that feel considered, rather than copied from the development next door.

I’m not interested in following a formula or recreating the same look in every home. I want to create something that feels unique to you.

A little introduction for those of you who are new here!

I’m the founder and Creative Director of Magpye Creative Interiors, an interior design studio based in Marbella, on the beautiful Costa del Sol, working across both residential and commercial interiors.

My journey into interior design was a little unconventional.

I started my creative career at Harrods, where I was headhunted to work within the Home & Furniture department, before moving into fashion styling as part of their iconic window display team.

From there, I became Creative Manager at Selfridges, where I was involved in a major multimillion-pound store transformation. I later moved into styling for photography shoots, creating beautiful spaces and settings for the camera.

Somewhere along the way, people started asking me to design their homes, and what began quite organically turned into a whole new chapter.

Fast-forward ten years, and here I am, designing residential and commercial spaces, bringing together everything I’ve learnt over nearly 20 years in the creative industry.

I’ve never been particularly interested in doing things the conventional way. I love interiors that have character, individuality and a little something unexpected. Spaces that feel considered, personal and completely unique to the people who use them.

I believe great design should never feel like a copy and paste of somewhere else.
