Author of Is Your Home Still Your Castle? Each informs the other. Design gains depth through lived experience.

Creator of the Home Assessment Method
30 years of interior design experience taught me that the person must come before the design-Malaga, Spain & Global Online Consultations I work with homes the way others work with strategy: by observing first, then acting with intention. With 30 years of international experience in interior design, home staging, and property presentation, my work focuses on creating spaces that are not only visually coherent, but emotionally and strategically aligned with the people who live in them — or the market they are meant to speak to. That's why I developed

'The Home Assessment Method' based on my book 'Is your home still your castle?'

Under Monika Griffith Rooms, I bring together two pillars of my work:
Intentional Interiors & authorship. Writing distills both into clear, practical insight.

A home and a property are not the same thing.

When you live in your home, it needs to work for your life.
When you are selling a property, it needs to work for the market.

That sounds obvious, but the decisions you make should be very different.

This is why I approach Interior Design and Home Staging as two distinct forms of work, with different purposes, different strategies and different outcomes.

And if you want to prepare your property yourself, my book 'Home Staging with Strategy' gives you the knowledge and framework to do it with intention rather than guesswork.

Whatever you are trying to achieve, the starting point is understanding what your space needs to do.

We have become very good at designing homes.

We know how to make them beautiful, functional, stylish and marketable.
But I have spent years asking a different question:
What if we started by looking at the person who lives there?

Because your home is not simply a space you decorate. You move through it every day. You see it, hear it, touch it, breathe its air, navigate its spaces and respond to what surrounds you, often without noticing.

That changes the question from “What should I do with this room?” to “What is this home doing for me?”

That is the thinking behind Is Your Home Still Your Castle? and The Home Check.
And it is also at the heart of how I approach everything I do.

If this makes you look at your own home differently, start with the book.

And if you would rather talk about your home, send me a message to book a free 30-minute Discovery Call.

As autumn approaches, we naturally start thinking about our homes a little differently. More time indoors, changing routines and a different atmosphere.

But before adding something new, rearranging furniture or making your home cosier, perhaps it's worth taking a closer look at what you already have.
How does your home feel? How well does it support your everyday life? And what have you stopped noticing simply because you've grown accustomed to it?

I call this The Home Check: taking a step back and looking at your home beyond its appearance, paying attention to how you experience it and how it influences the way you live.
A little autumn challenge: Take ten minutes to look at your home with fresh eyes. What would you change, what would you keep, and what have you only just noticed?

I'd love to hear: What's the first thing your home is telling you? Do you want to do The Home Check on your own? The method is in my book 'Is your home still your castle?'rooms

Environmental Psychology: The Relationship Between You and Your Home
We often talk about our homes in terms of design: how they look, how they function and whether the spaces work for us.
But there is another question I find far more interesting:

How does your home make you feel?

Environmental psychology explores the relationship between people and the physical environments they inhabit. Research has examined how aspects of our surroundings, including space, privacy, light, noise and environmental conditions, relate to how we experience the places in which we live.

For me, this connects with something I have observed throughout my years working with homes.

A room can look perfectly considered and still not feel right for the person living in it.
Equally, a space that was never consciously designed as a place to relax can become the place where someone naturally settles at the end of the day.

That relationship between person and place is what interests me.

It is also at the heart of my book, Is Your Home Still Your Castle?, where I invite the reader to look beyond design and start with the person living inside the home.

Because perhaps the most important thing to ask of a home is not “Does it look right?” but “Does it feel right for me?”

I just published an article about Enironmental Psychology, you can read it here if interested: https://www.monikagriffith.com/post/environmental-psychology-the-relationship-between-you-and-your-home

Have you ever noticed that there is one place in your home where you naturally feel more at ease?
Maybe it is the light. The quiet. The view. The feeling of space around you.
You may never have consciously chosen it for those reasons. You simply feel better there.

This is one of the things I find so fascinating about our relationship with home.
We don't experience our surroundings only by looking at them. We experience them through our everyday lives, often without stopping to ask why a particular space feels good, or why another never quite allows us to settle.

Environmental psychology gives us a fascinating lens through which to explore that relationship.
And it brings me back to a question I have been asking for years:

How does your home make you feel?

Not how does it look.
Not whether it is beautifully designed.
But how does it feel to live there?

This question is at the heart of my book, Is Your Home Still Your Castle?

If you have ever wondered whether your home is truly supporting the person you are today, the book is the way in.

It was such a pleasure to share my presentation with the Costa Women community.
And a special thank goes to Costa Women for the invitation and to the women who felt inspired by the conversation to take it a step further and buy my book, Is Your Home Still Your Castle? It means a great deal to know that the ideas we explored together have sparked enough curiosity to continue the conversation beyond the talk.
What I loved most was the response afterwards. The comments, questions and personal reflections showed me once again that our homes affect us in far more ways than we often realise.
Thank you to everyone who joined me, listened, questioned, shared and contributed. This is exactly why I believe there is so much more to a home than how it looks.

Our homes have a relationship with us. Sometimes, we simply need to pause long enough to notice it.

A Closer Look at Circadian Rhythm:
In this series, I take a closer look at some of the scientific connections behind the ideas explored in my book, Is Your Home Still Your Castle?
Our bodies carry an internal rhythm, yet modern life gives us countless ways to override the natural signals of daylight and darkness. A closer look at what circadian rhythm means for the way we live at home. Questions? Connect with me!rooms
