Green Sheep Collective

Green Sheep Collective Environmentally conscious, ethical, and community minded architecture firm that brings expertise, flexibility & fun to the design of your building.

Shae Parker McCashen has long been an architectural green sheep. Her upbringing instilled in her a respect for people and a passion for the environment. Shae’s earliest inspirations originated when sharing in the design and build of her childhood home, a mud-brick house in country Victoria. Living in this house taught her first hand the principles and benefits of passive solar design. Shae has worked as an architect in Melbourne, Bendigo, Darwin, and the United Kingdom. She furthered her experience in green design while working with renowned sustainable firms, including Zen Architects, Lyons, and Troppo Architects. Shae has been involved in a number of projects that have won awards in recognition of their functional, sustainable design. Shae graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2003 and has been registered as an architect since 2007. She has maintained a private practice since 2003, alongside salaried and freelance positions. In 2011, Shae decided to concentrate all her attentions on her role as Director of Green Sheep Collective.

We're feeling equal parts thrilled and honoured to be on the shortlist for three categories at the Sustainability Awards!

Dress Hire AU, up for an award in the Commercial category, demonstrates how architecture can extend the life of both buildings and products.

Located within an industrial precinct in Eltham, the project adapts an underperforming warehouse into a high-performance circular fashion hub enabling the repeated reuse of designer garments at scale. In doing so, it extends the lifespan of an existing building while enabling a business model dedicated to extending product lifecycles.

We look forward to the awards night in November and a big congratulations to all the other shortlisted firms!

We're feeling equal parts thrilled and honoured to be on the shortlist for three categories at the Sustainability Awards!

We're up for awards in Single Residential (Ample House), Commercial (Dress Hire AU), and, most excitingly, Sustainable Practice of the Year.

This recognition means a lot to our team who work hard to bring sustainable thinking to all aspects of our work.

A big congratulation to all the other nominated firms - sustainability is a team effort and we are continually learning from and being inspired by our peers.

We're feeling equal parts thrilled and honoured to be on the shortlist for three categories at the Sustainability Awards!

Ample House, up for an award in the Single Residential category, demonstrates that the most sustainable square metre is often the one that is never built.

Designed for an environmentally conscious couple preparing for retirement, the project reimagines a thermally inefficient Californian Bungalow in Brunswick through a philosophy of "enough-ness" - defining what is needed for a comfortable life and eliminating everything that isn't.

We look forward to the awards night in November and a big congratulations to all the other shortlisted firms!

Happy Friday to all those who celebrate!

We hope you've got a nice spot (like this beautiful north facing deck) to enjoy the moments of sun before the rain kicks in!

We had a lot of fun at the connecting with old and new friends.

It's exciting to see so many brilliant people working towards a sustainable built environment in their own unique, creative and thoughtful ways.

Some real highlights were seeing the beautiful timber and recycled plastic on display. Both products have wonderful stories and we're excited to incorporate them into our designs. Watch this space!

It was also great to see many inquisitive people pass through the pavilion we designed in collaboration with , , , and . Thank you to Tamsin O'Neill of for chairing our discussion on the pavilion.

We'll share a little more on the pavilion itself and how it came together in the coming weeks!

This heritage Californian Bungalow in Brunswick had plenty of charm but was cold, had convoluted circulation, and completely ignored the beautiful north-facing garden sitting behind it.

We made great use of what was already there (extending the roofline, reconfiguring the layout, upgrading the insulation) then crafted a design focused on light, warmth, and pulling that garden into every room.

Swipe for a fun look at the before and after.

50/50s House is a mid-century home brought to life. With beautifully filled, expansive shelving and lots of natural light, the living room is a space you don't want to leave.
