Armadillidium cf. espagnyoli “Marbleized” 🪨✨
Here you can see these terrestrial isopods feeding on a leaf that has been almost completely consumed, leaving mainly the leaf veins behind. You can even see through the remaining tissue, showing just how efficiently these tiny decomposers break down dead plant material.
Also known as woodlice, pill bugs or roly-polies, isopods play an important role in nature and in bioactive terrariums. By feeding on decaying organic matter, they help break it down and recycle nutrients back into the ecosystem, making them an essential part of the natural cleanup crew. 🌿
Thanks to for these little babies.
