The Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label is a French state distinction that recognises French houses for excellence in traditional and industrial know-how.

Gauthier & Compagnie was awarded it in 2017, and it was renewed in 2023.

The label rests on the company and on the skills held within its teams. Behind it, a demanding set of requirements, and one obligation: that these skills are practised in the workshop, and passed on.

The pinecone finial is the most emblematic Louis XVI motifs.

The Gauthier & Compagnie's signature patina gives the brass its depth, softening the highlights and revealing the detail in the shadows. A historic vocabulary, kept alive through finish and precision.

A paint covers the material and gives it a uniform colour. A patina works with the material. That is what makes it alive, and never entirely perfect.

Brass is an alloy, and it is never exactly the same from one casting to the next. Two visually identical pieces can therefore take the patina differently.

On its French Styles pieces, Gauthier & Compagnie applies its own patina, with lighter or darker tones possible on request. Rosettes, brackets, finials: the aim is a coherent set, accepting that each piece takes the patina in its own way.

For Design Parade 2018, alongside Pierre Yovanovitch, .yovanovitch and , Gauthier & Compagnie manufactured a 25 meters long elliptical shaped track, designed to disappear into the architecture, and let the textile lead the line.

A precise system, conceived for fluid movement, curtain control, and seamless integration, in service of a project where every detail matters.

Art Deco French Style emerged in the 1920s and 30s: pared back, geometric, sharply defined lines.

Gauthier&Cie, founded in 1888, was already there. Even back then, the house designed its own curtain hardware accessories.

Some of our Art Deco models are still in our collection today. Other master patterns, the original pieces from which each accessory is reproduced, are still waiting to be reissued.

The same motif is then carried across each accessory, to build a coherent set.

The Minis' curtain poles are designed for projects that call for a lighter presence.

Discreet, precise, and made to disappear into the scheme, they work beautifully for glazing, yacht interiors, wardrobes, kitchen rails, towel rails, and even shower curtains, anywhere the detail must stay quiet and perfectly aligned.

Made to measure by Gauthier & Compagnie, they are available on request in 8 mm, 12 mm, or 16 mm diameters, with bespoke shaping and finishes specified to suit each opening.

A roller shade comes down to a few things: a fabric, the tube it rolls onto, sometimes a motor, and the sleeve that dresses the whole. Each of these details matters, down to the sound of the motor.

The fabric, above all.

Gauthier & Compagnie only works with technical fabrics made in France, by Mermet or Ferrari, in a valley near Lyon where this know-how descends from the silk weavers.

This one is about discretion. From outside, nothing of the interior can be made out, while the fabric still provides thermal and light protection.

Finials, rosettes, corbels, tiebacks.

Part of our decorative vocabulary was established early on. In our very first catalogue, published in 1908, many style accessories already expressed that precision of detail that defines a curtain rod and brings balance to a window.

More than a century later, these models have lost none of their presence. They remain key pieces within our collections, reissued on request, project after project.

A patina is a finish applied to metal to shade its colour and reveal its relief. On a piece of curtain hardware, it is what gives brass its depth.

In the French foundry tradition, each piece is first polished, then varnished. The varnish can stay colourless, to keep the natural tone of brass, the only material we work with.

Then come the highlights, with a patina applied by hand. Gauthier & Compagnie's own, the "G4" patina, leans towards red, slightly brown without being too much, where other patinas are frankly black or brown.

The 'Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant' label is a state distinction that recognises French houses for excellence in traditional and industrial know-how. It celebrates a heritage built on technical precision, rare skills, and gestures passed down over time in the workshop.

In 2017, Gauthier & Compagnie was awarded this label for the way it brings together aesthetics, bending and shaping know-how, and technical innovation. A recognition that both honours and commits us, sustained every day with energy, humility, and continuous self-improvement, in service of demanding projects.
