Whilst the weather is starting to turn cooler in October, it is not quite cold enough to start your winter rose maintenance. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of jobs you can do throughout October to look after your roses.

🌹 Remove any diseased leaves from the plant before they drop and contaminate the soil.

🌹 Keep on top of deadheading, unless your rose produces hips, to allow the plant to put its energy into new growth.

🌹 Protect taller roses from the wind by tying them back or giving them a trim to make them less vulnerable to the changing weather.

Autumn is the season for rose hips 🍂

Rose hips are the fruits that grow on some varieties of roses after the plant has finished flowering. They contain new seeds for the rose and are most commonly red or orange, but can also be found in dark purple or black.

Head to our blog to learn more about rose hips or visit us at our Norfolk garden centre and see them for yourself.
