Seeing my work through someone else’s eyes always fascinates me.

My good friend Andy, an incredible photographer, has captured the textures, light and quiet details so beautifully here. Surfaces I know intimately take on a different character through his lens , revealing things I hadn’t noticed myself.

It’s a special thing when another person’s creativity makes you pause and appreciate your own work a little more.

A MASTERCLASS WITH ZACHARY DESIGN

After completing one of our beginners’ courses, Paul returned to Zachary Design for a one to one masterclass.

Paul is actually a mortgage adviser and came to us with no previous plastering experience. While renovating his own home, he wanted to learn how to apply his own decorative finishes and has since created some beautiful surfaces throughout his property 👏🏽

For this masterclass, we explored new products, sculptural techniques and hand finished pottery, all inspired by the wonderfully imperfect wabi-sabi aesthetic.

It’s been Inspiring to see how far Paul has come in his creative journey . Beautiful work, my friend 🤎

There’s something quite incredible about the way natural light reveals texture.

As the early evening light moves through the studio, it catches every ridge, hollow and subtle imperfection in this newly developed finish , details that completely transform as the light changes throughout the day.

This surface has been entirely handcrafted and sculpted by hand, working organically rather than striving for repetition or uniformity.

It’s very much rooted in the wabi-sabi philosophy ,embracing imperfection, irregularity and the quiet beauty found in materials that feel honest, tactile and human.

No two areas are quite the same.
And that’s exactly the point.

What makes this one particularly exciting is that it isn’t going to remain a studio sample for long…

In the next few weeks, we’ll be installing this finish into an incredible private home, where the architecture, natural light and scale of the space should allow it to really come alive.

Can’t wait to see this one in situ. 🤎

A study in contrast.

I’ve always been drawn to materials that tell different stories.

Liquid metal catches and reflects the changing light throughout the day, whilst stone textures bring depth, softness and a sense of permanence.

On paper they shouldn’t work together, but when carefully balanced they create something that feels natural, warm and timeless.

It’s a combination I’m excited to be exploring further, both within client projects and the new studio workshops.

Handcrafted exclusively for the new studio, this naturalistic surface has been designed for those who seek interiors with depth & texture .
Its soft organic movement works in perfect harmony with the weathered driftwood beside it …surprisingly collected from a local reservoir with each piece shaped over time by the elements.

For architects, interior designers and clients drawn to a more considered way of living, this finish offers an alternative to the predictable. a timeless finish which invites a sense of calm and authenticity into the spaces we inhabit.

A finish I’m delighted to add to the studio collection, created for those who appreciate tactile surfaces, natural materials and timeless design.
