The most expensive mistake with dry rot is treating only what you can see.

It spreads through the grain into timber that still looks solid, which is why the fix always involves cutting further back than the visible damage, and dealing with the cause underneath, not just the symptom on top.

This is what a subfloor sounds like when it's being rebuilt properly.

Old timber out, dry rot dealt with, new timbers going in. Not the finished job, not the reveal, just the middle of the work.

Once dry rot's in, it spreads further than the eye can see. Removing it properly is the only way to stop it coming back.
