Sketchbook 01: Boot room in Bloom 🌿

A collection of concept sketches by Harry for a client’s new boot room in the South Downs National Park. The small extension connects on to a Grade 2 Listed dwelling. The space envisioned connects the kitchen to the garden, whilst being subservient to the original house. The materiality is informed directly by the existing materials on site; copper, timber, brick and flint.

At Footprint Architects, we believe traditional methods are sometimes a more efficient way to communicate a design idea, which can often be lost using AI technology. It is a great skill we take pride in within the office culture.

Barrington Lane is our latest project for Bournemouth War Memorial Homes, transforming part of their existing estate into four new homes for ex-service personnel and people facing disadvantage.

The scheme builds on the success of Poppy Lane, completed in 2017, where we delivered five two-bedroom bungalows for the charity on the same estate.

Completed in 2026, Barrington Lane continues that approach: making better use of previously developed land, creating much-needed affordable housing and supporting a charity that has been providing homes and community support in Bournemouth since 1947.

A small site with a meaningful social impact.

Mudeford Passive House | Christchurch, Dorset

A new sustainable home designed to Passivhaus standards, responding to its coastal setting while putting comfort, energy efficiency and longevity at the heart of the design.

A fabric-first approach combines high levels of insulation, airtight construction, carefully positioned glazing, thermal mass and integrated solar shading to reduce energy demand and help keep the home warm in winter and comfortable through hotter summer months.

The architecture takes cues from Mudeford’s coastal character, using natural timber and muted brickwork to create a contemporary home that feels rooted in its setting.

A low-energy home designed for the way we need to live now — and in the future.

A brilliant milestone for the new Creative Arts Building at The Lantern Community.

We were delighted to attend the topping out ceremony at the weekend, marking an exciting stage in the construction of this new space for creativity, learning and community.

It was great to celebrate the progress alongside Spetisbury Construction and Whitefox Chartered Surveyors, and to see the project taking shape on site.

We’re looking forward to seeing the building continue to develop and, ultimately, become a welcoming and inspiring place for the Lantern community.
