This is the room that started it all 🤎

A few years ago I was a receptionist with 2 failed businesses and no idea what I was doing with my life. I decided to decorate our bedroom - wallpaper, paint, the lot - and somewhere in the chaos of it all (and Brad tripping & kicking a full bucket of water up my freshly papered walls) I realised my absolute love for how the transformation made the room feel TOTALLY different.

S**g Interior was born in this room. I just didn’t realise it.

I know it’s not my best work, I never share photos of this room because it’s due an update and I have some serious storage issues to address, but I wanted to share my origin story with you.

It took a lot more rooms in the house, a lot of learning and a lot of questionable first attempts at limewash before I managed to start a business in interiors, but realising that how a room is decorated is EVERYTHING to do with how you feel inside it came from this first, humble transformation.

Interior design is a huge world and not every enquiry I get is a good fit - for me or the client.

And that’s okay.. knowing who I work best with means I can give my clients everything I’ve got.

It might sound a bit ranty (sorry about that), but I think knowing who your client ISN’T is just as important as knowing who your ideal client is.

Working with people not aligned to your style, vibe, way of working or values doesn’t serve the client or the designer.

If you’re considering working with a designer it’s important to do your research ahead of enquiring so that you can get a feel for their work and decide if it feels like you.

It can be tricky when you want to change up your style but reaching out to designers whose style are totally different tastes from your own could mean you end up with a costly mistake.

I LOVED working with Divinity Studio | Pilates NUL on the redesign of their ground floor studio. 🧘‍♂️

The space was previously painted beige, which wasn’t quite hitting the mark. The loft studio above is a much lighter, airier space, so the lighter tones feel natural there, but downstairs it didn’t have the same energy.

Jess the owner sent me her brand colours and I suggested we leaned into the lack of natural light and go darker with a tone to contrast the brand’s signature pink.

Selecting an ombré limewash for the walls and a dark green ceiling helped ground the space and create a studio that felt natural, earthy and calm.

The natural wood and real plants enhanced the calming elements of the room, and the low level lighting is so perfect for those evening hot yoga classes.
