Antique Victorian Pine Chest of Drawers c.1840 - Just arrived 😍

Dimensions: Height 87 cm / Width 94 . 5 cm / Depth 44 cm

Provenance: England

Material: Antique Pine

Date: 1840

A wonderfully characterful early Victorian pine chest of drawers, circa 1840, with an abundance of authentic rustic charm.

Constructed in solid pine in the traditional two-short-over-three-long drawer configuration, the chest displays many features of early 19th-century cabinetmaking, including hand-cut dovetailed drawers and old hand-forged nails.

The chest has acquired a fabulous pale, naturally aged surface with wonderful colour variations, old knots, marks, shrinkage, knocks, and imperfections accumulated over approximately 180 years of use. Overall height 201 cm / Plate rack height 120 cm

Plate rack Depth 20.5 cm / Plate rack width 163.5 cm

Materials - Untouched Antique Thick pine with original pine backboards and original turned wooden drawer k**bs.

Origin / Provenance: Wales

Date - Circa 1840

A substantial and exceptional-quality Welsh pine dresser, dating to circa 1840, retaining its original plate rack, seven drawers, central cupboard, and wonderfully mellow patina acquired over generations of use.

Particularly noteworthy is the rare, exceptionally thick original antique pine top, beautifully worn; its deep scrubbed surface has been untouched and has developed a rich colour and authentic patina that cannot be replicated, and tells a story of decades of everyday country-house use. The drawers retain their original hand-cut dovetail joints and slide smoothly, while the back is original and is constructed from vertical pine boards.

With broad hand-planed boards throughout, the dresser displays beautiful provincial craftsmanship. The distinctive carved Gothic-inspired central cupboard door, fluted corner pilasters, shaped cornice and original turned wooden k**bs give the piece exceptional character while remaining wonderfully restrained.
