✨ NEW IN: Rare Pair of Mid-19th Century Circular Silver-Gilt & Wood Wall Mirrors (c. 1850) ✨
An exceptional, true matched pair of early Victorian mirrors styled elegantly in the Regency taste. Finding intact circular pairs of this age, scale, and material integrity is incredibly rare. At 52cm wide with a bold 7cm depth, they make a perfect architectural statement for an alcove, a luxury washroom, or flanking a stately fireplace.
Key Details:
• Artisan Craftsmanship: Profiled wooden frames with moulded gesso floral scrolls set against an incised cross-hatch "diaperwork" grid pattern that beautifully catches the light.
• Classic Silhouette: Original exquisite silver-gilt tone water gilding, over a bole and gesso ground, anchored by a striking, ebonized multi-reeded inner slip ring.
• Historical Purpose: While most round frames of this era used convex glass to distribute candlelight, premium workshops produced these flat-plate variants strictly for portrait viewing and decorative symmetry.
• 100% Authentic: Un-restored rough-sawn timber backboards held fast by period nails. The original flat glass plates retain a few subtle specks of age-related foxing, confirming a 170+ year history while keeping a crisp, clear reflection.
