Orchard clearance, day five 🌳🌊

Today we moved down to the riverside strip. This stretch was solid blackthorn, which the client wanted out, with bramble running right through it.

🌵 Blackthorn cleared out
🌿 Bramble cut right down to ground level
🌳 A couple of decent elders found in there and left standing

The whole area is now ready for the next stage, which will be a flail mow to bring it back to a proper meadow finish.

Five days in and the site's a different place. Nearly there with the heavy work!

Orchard clearance, days three and four 🌳🪚

With the floor cleared, the chainsaw's been earning its keep. Over the last two days we've been felling:

🪵 Dead trees
💥 Snapped and storm-damaged trees
↘️ Over-leaning trees crowding out their neighbours

The result: four big piles of brush stacked and ready for the chipper, and an orchard that's starting to look like an orchard again. Progress is coming along really well.

The log pile's getting bigger and longer by the day too, all stacked in the orchard for the wildlife to move into.

Still plenty to do, but the heavy felling is well under way.

Orchard clearance, day two 🌳

Back on the orchard job near Frome, and today was all about the low-level stuff.

🌿 Orchard floor cleared right back, so we can actually get to the trees for the next stage
🌵 One big area of bramble cut down that had taken over a good chunk of the orchard
🪵 More logs stacked up for wildlife habitat

Not the glamorous end of the job, but you can't do the tree work until you can reach the trees. Access first, chainsaws after.

More to come as the orchard opens up!

Day one of a big one 🌳💪

We've made a start on a large orchard clearance near Frome, and this is going to be a job of many days.

Stage one is clearing the low-level vegetation so we can actually get in and see what we're working with. Once that's done, the real tree work begins: felling dead trees, over-leaning trees, and anything crowding out or interfering with the trees worth keeping.

Today's progress:
🌿 First area cleared of low-level growth
🌵 Second area cleared of dense blackthorn
🪵 Logs cut to roughly 1.5m lengths and stacked in the orchard

The log piles are staying put on purpose. Left in the orchard they make brilliant habitat for insects, birds and small wildlife, so nothing goes to waste.

Chainsaw, hedge cutters and strimmer all earning their keep. Very physical, very demanding, and exactly the kind of work we love.

More updates as the orchard opens up!

Not every job is about trees! 🌳➡️⚡

Today we were back with a repeat customer in Frome, digging out a trench for a new electrical cable to run from the house to their garage.

⛏️ Dug to 45cm deep for proper protection and followed the electrician desired route.
🧹 Site left tidy and ready to backfill once the cable's in.

Always good to be asked back, thank you for the repeat custom!

Another good day back at our Buckland Dinham garden project 🌿

Today was mostly border clearance, and there was plenty of it! We also:

🌳 Removed one large stump completely
🪵 Cut a second stump down to ground level
🧹 De-weeded the patio

Six bulk bags of garden waste later, the borders are clear and the garden's ready for its next chapter.

🌳🪚 Teamwork in the treetops in Great Elm, near Frome!

Today’s job for Perry’s All Outdoor Solutions was a substantial crown reduction on a beech tree, cutting back and reshaping the canopy all the way round. 💪🍃

A big thanks to Finn Wilding and Toby Slinger for their climbing work today. It’s always good to team up with other local tree surgeons — combining skills, supporting local businesses and getting the job done together. 🤝

One very happy customer and the site left clean and tidy. Take a look at the before-and-after photos to see the difference! 📸✨
