Saying goodbye to damp patches and bubbling paint for good in walkerigham! 🛠️💦
When dealing with a persistent damp problem in old buildings, masking it with standard gypsum plaster is a shortcut to failure. Standard materials trap moisture inside the brickwork, causing salts to bubble up, blow the plaster, and ruin your finish.
On this project, we did things the right way—by working with the building, not against it. We completely stripped the wall back to brick and installed a fully breathable system using Wykamol Renovation Plaster.
Here is how we fixed this damp wall properly👌
• Back to Brickwork: We hacked off all the old, contaminated, salt-damaged plaster and render. Taking the wall completely back to the original brick allows the masonry to dry out naturally and eliminates lingering salts.
• Wykamol Renovation Backing Coat: We built the wall back out using Wykamol Renovation Plaster Backing Coat. Unlike modern gypsum, this backing coat is highly porous. It controls moisture by letting the wall "breathe" while actively preventing harmful hygroscopic salts from migrating to the surface.
• Wykamol High-Impact Top Coat: To finish, we applied Wykamol High-Impact Renovation Plaster Top Coat. This gives the client a perfectly smooth, durable, knock-resistant finish without sacrificing breathability.
The entire wall system now acts like a high-performance jacket—holding back salts and resisting impact while allowing moisture v***r to pass through freely. 💨🏠
We shall be back over once its fully dry to re-fit skirting boards and coving ready for the customer to decorate with a breathable wallpaper or paint 🙏
