Another toilet… but this one's a bit different! 😂🔐

This time I was at Southend Crematorium, fitting a new lock to a fire door.

Check out the contraption attached to the door! 😂 It's actually a specialist jig that helps me get everything positioned and cut accurately. 👏🏻

When you're working on a fire door, there's no room for guesswork! You need the right tools, knowledge and experience to do the job properly.

Not every locksmith would have the equipment or confidence to take on a fresh installation like this. Locksmithing is about more than just changing locks! 👍

A chap in Leigh-on-Sea had lost the key to his old glass cabinet and needed to get back in.

Now, this wasn't a case of simply replacing a lock or cutting a copy from an existing key. There was no key to copy!

So I set about making one myself, by hand, working from my van outside the customer's property.

I'd practised this at home before, but this was the first time I'd used those skills on a customer's job. And I'm pleased to say the finished key worked lovely and smoothly! 😁👍

Not every locksmith would take on a job like this, but I do enjoy a challenge!

And hopefully it shows there's a lot more to locksmithing than just turning up and changing locks. 🔐

Another job at Shoebury Park, where a digital lock had been ripped off a changing room door. 😱

I took the time to find a digital lock that matched the existing holes, and once I'd sourced the right one, I returned to fit it and secure the changing room again. 👍

Sometimes the job isn't just about fitting a new lock. It's about finding the right solution without causing unnecessary damage or expense. ✅

It's the little things that make a difference, and after more than 10 years as a locksmith, I've learnt that taking a bit of extra time to do things properly is always worthwhile. 💯

I've been getting rather fiddly with locks lately! 😂

I've been learning and practising repinning euro cylinders, and I've just finished this set so that every cylinder now operates from the same key. 😁

It's one of those jobs that requires patience and a steady hand, but I'm getting the hang of it. If I'm honest, I love learning this stuff.

Locksmithing has never been just a job to me. Locks, security and technology are constantly changing, so I'm always looking to improve my skills, learn new techniques and keep my knowledge up to date.

Even after more than 10 years in the trade, there's always something else to master... and I think that's exactly how it should be. 💯

The more I know, the more solutions I can offer my customers. 👍🔑

Another day, another public toilet lock! 🚽🔐🤣

Back to Southchurch Park for this one, where it looks like someone gave the door a pretty hefty kick and damaged the lock. 😱

Unfortunately, vandalism like this can leave these facilities unsecured or unusable until someone comes along and sorts them out. That's where I come in! 🔧

Damaged lock removed, replacement fitted and everything working and secure again. 👍

I've certainly seen the inside of more public toilets than I ever expected when I became a locksmith 😂, but these facilities matter to the local community (especially the accessible toilets), so I'm pleased to help keep them open, working, and secure.
